O’Sullivan Financial Services Dingle Way Challenge 2017

The Dingle Way Challenge, kindly sponsored by O’Sullivan Financial Services is less than 3 weeks away and will take place on Sunday the 4th of June (keep this date free in your diaries). This year’s route, the best yet, takes us from Dingle HarbourThis walk is ideal for groups, teams, friends and solo hikers and unlike previous challenges, you can either opt for The  towards Ventry and then on to Murrioch, via the ancient path, “Cosán na Naomh”. There will then be a choice of 3 routes to bring us to the finish line and a truly deserved BBQ on arrival in Cloghane. The choices are:

Option 1, The Ultra route, 45km: Bus departs Blennerville at 5.30am and there is a walk from Dingle via the pilgrim path to Murrioch. There will be a brunch at An Ghaeltacht GAA Club, home of the famous O’Se brothers, and from there, climb Mount Brandon, descending via Sauce Creek and finally finishing at Cloghane.
Option 2, 34km: Departing Blennerville at 5.30am, walking from Dingle via the pilgrim path to Murrioch. There will be a brunch at An Ghaeltacht GAA Club, going back on the ancient path, walking through the valley, right under the Conor Pass and finishing in Cloghane.

Option 3,19km: Depart Blennerville at 7.15am and walk from Murrioch via Cosán na Naomh through the valley and under the Conor Pass to finish in Cloghane or walk from Murrioch and climb Mount Brandon, descending via Sauce Creek to finish in Cloghane.

Buses back to the clubhouse in Blennerville will be provided where there will be showers available for those who need it. There will also be an evening of entertainment in Quane’s Bar Blennerville where participants will be treated to an evening of food and drinks. This Challenge gives locals and tourists alike a great opportunity to experience the stunning scenery that West Kerry has to offer in a fun, safe and challenging environment. This year’s route is slightly shorter than last year but don’t be fooled as the Ultra section more than makes up for it. Juvenile-Academy

U6: Our Academy boys and girls had a good turnout last Sunday morning in Annascaul against our friends and neighbours, Annascaul GAA who hosted our U6 team for fun games and everyone involved had lots of fun displaying their skills, which will no doubt stand to them in future. The club will like to thank our hosts for their hospitality. Congratulations to Cillian Enright who received our player of the week trophy by showing great skill and determination throughout the fun games. Academy is this Friday at 6.15pm.

U8: Well done to all the under 8’s and their parents for getting to the Annascaul pitch last Sunday morning to play a return Go game with the Annascaul club. The wet weather experienced earlier in the morning cleared away in time for our game and we enjoyed bright and windy conditions.

Annascaul playing on their home pitch settled in to the game much faster commanding much of the exchanges however St Pats battled bravely and at the end both sets of players shook hand and thanked the other team for a well played game. So well done to James Daly, Ben Deegan, Gearóid Hingston, Aoife Kennedy, Niamh Murphy, Chloe Passway, Stephen Enright, Ródhan Culloo, Ryan Fitzgerald, Sarah Fitzgerald, Shane O’Neill, Eddie Hayes and Nikodem Lukasz.

It is very important that you all keep practising at home during the week and especially on kicking the ball from your hands.

Please note that the Academy session will be on Friday night this week at 6:15pm. The change is to facilitate attendance at the family Mass at 11am on Sunday 21st May in Curraheen Church and in particular our players from Derryquay and Blennerville Schools who recently made their 1st Holy Communion.

U10: St Pats U-10’s traveled into the west last Sunday and played Annascaul in a great Fun Go Game. All our St Pats future stars performed very well and they all enjoyed getting  a chance to play in different positions during the game.

All our players gave a great display of their use of their skills. Some of the highlights were Luke Passway’s strong arm to deflect the ball away to prevent  a certain goal.  Michael Enright holding possession whilst rolling away from tackles.  Gary Scollard’s high catch followed by a powerful kick for a goal.

Caoilainn Culloo’s fine one handed tackle dispossessing an opponent. Aiden Hayes’s quick hand pass to a teammate when he was surrounded by blue jerseys. Daniel Sheehy’s driving run, minding the ball and scoring a beauty of a goal.

Mark O’ Brien’s numerous block downs and quick pick ups. Jack Costello’s quick thinking to take a short 45 to Darragh Murphy who took a lovely point from distance. Killian O’Mahony’s strong long kicks and well taken goals. The coaches were delighted with the effort each player gave on the day. We have a blitz in Churchill next Tues 16th 6.30pm. Thurs 18th 6.15pm Athletics Coaching Session 3 continues. Our next Academy is on Fri 19th at 6.15pm St Pats Academy instead of the usual Sunday. Naomh Padraig Abú …

U12 Mixed: With the last game of Phase 1 played last weekend, we now await the grouping and fixtures for the second phase of the league which re-commences on Sunday, 21st May.

U12 Girls: For the first time in over 10 years, a St Pats U12 girl’s team will be competing in the County League. Our first game is at home to Currow this Tuesday, the 16th at 6.30pm. All support would be welcome. We will also take part in an U12 blitz in Castlegregory this Thursday, the 18th also at 6.30pm, so a very busy week is in store for our young ladies!

U17: The first U 17 Club 9 a side Competition will begin on Wednesday 24th May. The Competition will take place over 3 Rounds: May 24th, May 29th and June 2nd.

On May 24th the Competition will begin with 6 groups of 3 teams (we are in group 3 with Kerins O’Rahilly’s and Castlegregory).

In each group, a round robin competition will take place with each team getting 2 games each, which are 12 minutes a half. After the first night, teams in each group will be ranked 1, 2 and 3 depending on the position they finish after the round robin and also where they play on the second night.

Night 2 will see all 18 teams play but the 6 teams that were ranked 1st from the first night will make division 1, same goes for 2nd and 3rd placed teams who will now form division 2 and 3 respectively.

Each division will again be broken into 2 groups of 3 with the top 2 from each grouped divisions qualifying for the semi-finals on night 3. The semi-finals and finals of the 3 divisions will be played on the 3rd night with games lasting 12 minutes a half.
