O’Sullivan Financial Services Dingle Way Challenge 2017

The Dingle Way Challenge, kindly sponsored by O’Sullivan Financial Services is less than 2 weeks away and will take place on Sunday the 4th of June (keep this date free in your diaries). This year’s route, the best yet, takes us from Dingle Harbour

This walk is ideal for groups, teams, friends and solo hikers and unlike previous challenges, you can either opt for The  towards Ventry and then on to Murrioch, via the ancient path, “Cosán na Naomh”. There will then be a choice of 3 routes to bring us to the finish line and a truly deserved BBQ on arrival in Cloghane. The choices are:

Option 1, The Ultra route, 45km: Bus departs Blennerville at 5.30am and there is a walk from Dingle via the pilgrim path to Murrioch. There will be a brunch at An Ghaeltacht GAA Club, home of the famous O’Se brothers, and from there, climb Mount Brandon, descending via Sauce Creek and finally finishing at Cloghane.

Option 2, 34km: Departing Blennerville at 5.30am, walking from Dingle via the pilgrim path to Murrioch. There will be a brunch at An Ghaeltacht GAA Club, going back on the ancient path, walking through the valley, right under the Conor Pass and finishing in Cloghane.
Option 3,19km: Depart Blennerville at 7.15am and walk from Murrioch via Cosán na Naomh through the valley and under the Conor Pass to finish in Cloghane or walk from Murrioch and climb Mount Brandon, descending via Sauce Creek to finish in Cloghane.

Buses back to the clubhouse in Blennerville will be provided where there will be showers available for those who need it. There will also be an evening of entertainment in Quane’s Bar Blennerville where participants will be treated to an evening of food and drinks.

This Challenge gives locals and tourists alike a great opportunity to experience the stunning scenery that West Kerry has to offer in a fun, safe and challenging environment. This year’s route is slightly shorter than last year but don’t be fooled as the Ultra section more than makes up for it. Juvenile-Academy

U6: Well done to Bruce McMillan, James Riordan and Hannah Enright who put in a great training session last Sunday morning but a huge well done to Jace Flynn who received our player of the week trophy by showing great skill and determination throughout the session. Keep up the good work.

U8: What great energy our under-8 players have, competing in Community games earlier in the week and back down in the pitch on Friday night for the academy session. Despite the change from our usual Sunday morning session twelve of our group were there for a very energetic session of running, hopping, rolling, laughing, chasing, messing and more running. So well done to all and we will back at our usual time and venue on next Sunday. Here’s a question….do you have a football at home for your under eight player to practice with?….the more often a child practices with a ball the faster will his or her skills improve over the child that only participates in the weekly collective coaching sessions. If you haven’t got a football at home then it’s worth getting a ‘First touch Go Games’ ball which is the officially approved ball for the young GAA player that is suitable for age group 6-8.

U10: St Pats U-10’s made the short journey to the Spa last Tuesday to take part in a Fun Go Games blitz against Churchill, Ardfert and Ballyheigue. All our St Pats future stars performed very well on the evening and continue to improve with every outing. All our players gave a great display of their football skills.

Some of the highlights were Aiden Hayes’s burst of a run to get away from a few Ballyheigue players followed by his shot at goals which was very unfortunate to hit the cross bar.  Daniel Sheehy’s beautifully timed dispossession of an Ardfert player who was about to unleash for a score which Daniel followed up with a long accurate kick pass to a teammate resulting in a score. Mark O’ Brien’s high catch from a kick-out ending with him kicking a great point from distance. Jack Costello always alert, sensing danger and sweeping up loose ball around our full back line.  Michael Enright’s quick accurate hand passes to his teammates.

Darragh Murphy’s excellent man marking of one of Ballyheigue’s danger men. Gary Scollard’s determination to score some goals for his team. Killian O’Mahony’s burst of pace with the ball to evade the opposition and take some great scores.

The coaches were delighted with effort each player gave on the evening. We were back with our academy last Friday evening and again our u10 players gave their all to fine tune their football skills. It’s important all our players keep practising their skills at home during the week Naomh Padraig Abú …

U12 Mixed: Phase 2 of the County Football League commenced this weekend. We drew a bye for the first round of games and are grouped with Austin Stacks C, Laune Rangers C, Cordal, Skellig Rangers, Sneem/Derrynane and Valentia. Our first game goes ahead this Sunday 28th May when we play Skellig Rangers at home. Throw in time is 6 PM.

U12 Girls: For the first time in over 10 years, a St Pats U12 girls’ team competed in the County League. We played Currow at home last Tuesday but the first half didn’t go our way and the scoreline was looking pretty ominous at half time. Our brave girls are made of steel and they staged one of the best second half performances ever seen. They narrowly lost the game but outplayed the opposition in every part of the field this half. Every single player played their hearts out and did themselves and our club proud.

On Thursday, we took part in a blitz in Castlegregory where we played 4 games against Castlegregory’s 2 teams, Dingle and Corca Dhuibhne Laith. Our girls put in excellent performances winning all 4 games and racking up great scores in the process. Many thanks to Castlegregory for hosting such a well organised, excellently run blitz.

U17: The first U 17 Club 9 a side Competition will begin this Wednesday 24th May, where we will play the host team, Kerins O’Rahillys at 7pm and later on at 8.20pm, we will play Castlegregory. Each match is 12 minutes a half. We wish the management team and players the best of luck in this competition.
