O’Sullivan Financial Services Dingle Way Challenge 2017

The Dingle Way Challenge, kindly sponsored by O’Sullivan Financial Services is less than 2 weeks away and will take place on Sunday the 4th of June (keep this date free in your diaries). This year’s route, the best yet, takes us from Dingle Harbour towards Ventry and then on to Murrioch, via the ancient path, “Cosán na Naomh”. There will then be a choice of 3 routes to bring us to the finish line and a truly deserved BBQ on arrival in Cloghane.

Buses back to the clubhouse in Blennerville will be provided where there will be showers available for those who need it. There will also be an evening of entertainment in Quane’s Bar Blennerville where participants will be treated to an evening of food and drinks. Registration can be completed online via the St Pats Facebook page.

There is also a lovely picturesque family/juvenile section which is approximately 4km and departs from O’Connors pub car park in Cloghane at 2pm. For those choosing this option, there will be a bus leaving St Pats field at 1pm sharp. The walk will finish in Cloghane village, same as the main options, where there will be BBQ and music. Buses will also be available to bring walkers back to Blennerville that evening. A family contribution can be made via the sponsorship cards, which has been distributed to the juveniles. Help is also required with catering, stewarding or driving one of the courtesy cars on the day. Parents are encouraged to contact their child’s coaches if they are interested.

DWC 2017 Gratitudes

The club will like to express their gratitude to people who have supported the event to date, in particular those who are returning for their 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th DWC and of course our first time participants, people coming from all over Ireland and indeed the globe.

Our friends all over Corca Dhuibhne who display magnificent hospitality and kindness, our sponsors, GAA clubs and everyone who is helping in no small way to deliver a successful DWC 2017.

Juvenile-Academy

U6: We welcomed our friends and neighbours, Kerins O’Rahillys last Sunday morning for fun games. Everyone involved had fun and it was a delight to spot a lot of talent on display

U8: In ideal weather conditions our under-8 squad lined out to play the visiting under-8 team from Kerins O’Rahilly’s team. With some of their school classmates in the opposing team a few of our team were determined to show how well we can play and so the pre-match warm-up had a bit more intensity than normal and one of our more experienced coaches took charge of refereeing the game.

Throughout the game between two evenly matched teams great skill and score taking was shown by both sides. We had some great goalkeeping by Sharon who was well protected by Ben, Sarah, Ródhan, and Eddie. A lot of good possession was won further out the field by Gearóid, Sean, Ryan, Stephen and James, this in turn meant plenty of ball went to our attack lines of Chloe, Rían, Niamh, Shane, Aoife, Nikodem and Patryk .

At the end of a very sporting game nothing separated the sides on the scoreboard and each team lined up to thank the other for a well-played game. Well done to all and keep up the practice at home…throw the ball in the air and catch it without dropping it.

It is important that all children wear a properly fitting gum shield when training and playing in games.

U10: St Pats under 10’s Academy were training again last Sunday on home turf. There was a great turnout of players all eager to show off their skills. It was great to see all the players putting in a great effort especially Rory Daly, Killian O’Mahony , Aiden Hayes and Luke Passway. We have no Academy this Sunday due to St. Pats annual Dingle Way Challenge fundraiser which is taking place on Sunday 4th June. This is our main fundraiser and vital for the running of the club. We would hope that everyone associated with the Club will come along and support us on the day. In the meantime it’s important all our u10 players keep practicing their skills at home. U12 Mixed: ST PATS 4-8, SKELLIG RANGERS 5-13.

For our first match of the second phase of the County League, we hosted a Skellig team that had already won its first outing last week. After a slow start, we came more into the game with driving runs from Lisa, Diarmuid and Josh creating scores for Fionn (2-1), Paddy (a point) and Diarmuid himself scored a fine goal. This had us trailing by 4 points at halftime. Skellig came out strong at the start of the second period, and had added 3-3 before we came back at them with a batch of scores from Callum Houston  (3 points), Josh, Paddy and Callum Hayes  (a point each) and a great goal from Seanie. This was a very encouraging performance, and we can look forward to Valentia this Friday.

U12 Girls: Our girls played away to Finuge/St Senans last Tuesday in the County League and came away with a resounding victory. This was another great performance which marked the debut of Rachel Mulgrew.

Team: Sinead Murphy, Ailbhe Daly, Caoimhe Dairo, Lisa Rowan, Caoimhe O’Sullivan, Siobhan O’Sullivan, Grainne Breen, Kayla O’Connor, Orlaith Murphy, Sarah Brett, Keelin Enright and Emily Roche.

Our next game is at home to Killarney Legion on Tuesday at 7pm. We wish them all the best.

U17: We are now grouped in division 3A of this competition because we came third after 2 games from the first night. In  with us are Austin Stacks, whom we play at 7pm and Knock/Brosna @ 7.40pm. Games are 9 a side and 12 minutes a half. Venue for this competition is Connolly Park this Monday, 29th of May.

Senior B Team

Well done to our B team on their second straight victory in the Junior Football League, group 2. They travelled to Ballydonoghue with mostly young players who acquitted themselves very well on a wet night for playing football. Half time scores were 2-03 to 8 points in favour of St Pats.

Their dominance continued into the second half with the home side having no answer as the away side ran out winners on a score line of Ballydonoghue 0-13 St Pats 3-08

Our goals came from Breandáin Savage, Brandon Boyle and Martin Stack

Team: John Fitzgerald, Killian Quirke, Kieran O’Sullivan, Paul O’Sullivan, Tommy O’Connor, Brian Murphy, Cillian O’Riordan, Liam Poff, Brandon Boyle, Gary Savage, Paudie Bailey, Jack Lynch, Breandáin Savage, Thomas O’Sullivan
