Juvenile Academy

U6: Well done to Noah Flynn, Paddy Costello and Thomas Higgins who put in a great training session last Sunday morning but a huge well done to Saorlaith Costello who received our player of the week trophy by showing great skill and determination throughout the session. Keep up the good work. Training continues next Sunday at Cumann Iosaef Hall at 10am. New players are welcome.

U8: The word is out there…that the St Pats Academy is back in action with indoor sessions on Sunday mornings in the Sports Hall of the Cumann Iosaef Centre. We had a great attendance for the under-8 session last Sunday. All that enthusiasm and energy is great to see and great effort was put in by everyone. A special mention goes to Hugh Costello, Sarah Greaney, Rían Flynn and Tommy Costello who showed great accuracy with the ball along the ladder exercise. To the front in the run, jump and catch were Gearóid Hingston, Chloe Passway, Stephen Enright, James Daly, and Bradley Hunt. In the ball catching exercise good skill was shown by Seamus Hingston, Aoife Kennedy, Isaac Price, Grace Falvey and Sharon Enright. As usual at the end of the session it was a tough decision to decide who was to get the player of the week trophy so well done to Kerry Falvey who was the chosen one.

It was nice to some more of our players making a return after the winter layoff namely Keelin Sinnott, Cian O’Halloran and Lainey Costello

It’s important to do some practice at home during the week so this week we want you to practice one of the exercises we showed you on Sunday last: just throw the ball into the air, clap your hands behind your back and catch the ball on the way down. Try to practice for at least 10 minutes two days during the week.

U10: Our U10’s were training again last Sunday in Cumann Iosaef hall. There was a great turnout of players all eager to learn and show off their skills. It was great to see all the players putting in a great effort especially Gary Scollard, Rory Daly and Ben Jones. Well done to player of the week Luke Passway, keep up the good work. It’s important everyone keeps practicing their skills at home during the week. We are back training again Sunday morning same time 11am and same location.

Seniors

Our seniors kicked off their 2018 football season in the Brendan’s League when they drew with Ardfert in a first round fixture, in very windy conditions at the John Mitchels Complex, last Sunday.

The match was 9 minutes old before the first point was registered and that was by St Pats captain, David O’Callaghan from play.

The only goal of the match came 9 minutes after from persistent marking by Liam Poff on Ardfert’s goalkeeper, Nicky O’Sullivan, forcing him into an error and sending the ball across the face of goal.

Brandon Boyle reacted quickest for a tap in. There were further points from Willie Hurley and a fisted effort by Paul McMahon as the first half ended on a score line of 1-5 to 0-4 in favour of St Pats.

St Pats made a number of changes to the starting line up in the second half and were playing against the wind, but it was Ardfert who started well as they registered 3 unanswered points within the first 5 minutes of the half before a David O’Callaghan point got us back on the scoreboard but it was Ardfert who made the most of their scoring opportunities despite registering a total of 12 wides to our 4 to draw level as the match ended on a scoreline of St Pats 1-8 to Ardfert’s 0-11.

Team manager, Joe Costello was content with the result considering that we were missing a few players and had only been training for a very short period.

There were inspired performances by David O’Callaghan and Kieran Dwyer.

Team: Paudie Bailey, Joe O’Connor, Kieran Dwyer, Brian Murphy, Breandáin Savage, Brendan Poff, Cillian O’Riordan, Paul McMahon (0-1), Liam Poff, Luke Mulligan, David O’Callaghan (0-4, 2f), Brandon Boyle (1-0), Eoin Greaney, Willie Hurley (0-3, 1f), Cian Ronan

Subs used: John Fitzgerald, Shane Jordan, Tommy O’Connor, Eoghan Dillane, Paul O’Sullivan, Killian Quirke, Sean Hogan and Jack Lynch

Our next match is away to John Mitchels this Sunday, 28th January at 12 noon. Best of luck to all.
