AGM

Our Senior AGM will take place on Sunday, the 2nd of December at 3pm in our Community Rooms. All registered club members are advised to attend. We would require the services of a new secretary and treasurer. If you would like to get involved in any aspect as the local GAA club is a great way to forge great and often life-long friendships, please contact club secretary, Conor Culloo for any motions and nominations.

This is to be preceded by our Juvenile AGM which will now be held in the Community Rooms at 2pm (2nd December). We appeal to all club patrons, particularly the parents of the club’s juveniles to attend this important meeting and help make plans for 2019. This is an important meeting and we would like to further hear your views on how we can improve our Academy and Juvenile club.

The Juvenile section of the club will also require the services of a new Secretary for the coming year. Any nominations can be sent to tboyle247@gmail.com before Friday, 30th November. All parents of underage players are invited to attend on the night.

Dates for the Diary

Plans are in the pipeline for a Christmas party for our Academy kids and the date has been tentatively fixed for the 1st of December. More details to follow later.

We are back bag packing in Garveys on Thursday, December 13th. This is a great opportunity to raise funds for your club. We will be in touch via the usual manner for slots and availabilities.

Workshop on Concussion

The GAA is not a major risk sport for concussion but in recognising its responsibility to raise awareness and develop greater levels of understanding, the Club hosted a workshop on concussion last Wednesday evening.

The workshop was facilitated by Mark Beakey of ‘Concussion Coach’ and was well attended with representation from St. Pats, Tralee Rugby Club, Camp Junior Soccer Club, Churchill GAA and parents from Blennerville NS. Our thanks to Blennerville NS for making the school hall available at short notice.

The workshop aimed to enable participants to better understand and manage incidents of suspected concussion and the recovery period safely. Also outlined was the need to create an effective culture of concussion safety within the respective clubs so that coaches, players and parents better understand why the decision to remove a player from a game is made and the rationale behind managing the players’ return following an incident of concussion

The GAA has developed resource material including GAA Concussion Management Guidelines for coaches, players of all ages, parents and referees and these are available at https://learning.gaa.ie/Concussion.
