AGM

Our Senior AGM will take place this Sunday, the 2nd of December at 3pm in our Community Rooms. All registered club members are advised to attend. We would require the services of a new secretary and treasurer. If you would like to get involved in any aspect as the local GAA club is a great way to forge great and often life-long friendships, please contact club secretary, Conor Culloo for any motions and nominations.

This is to be preceded by our Juvenile AGM which will now be held in the Community Rooms at 2pm (2nd December). We appeal to all club patrons, particularly the parents of the club’s juveniles to attend this important meeting and help make plans for 2019. This is an important meeting and we would like to further hear your views on how we can improve our Academy and Juvenile club. The Juvenile section of the club will also require the services of a new Secretary for the coming year. Any nominations can be sent to tboyle247@gmail.com before Friday, 30th November. All parents of underage players are invited to attend on the night.

Seniors

Our seniors finished their season with a hard fought victory over a dogged Churchill side in the Lee Strand St Brendans Football Board Senior Championship Final played under flood lights last Saturday evening in Caherslee.

The match was 3 minutes old before the first point was registered by Churchill via a quick free taken by Chris Hurley to unmarked Michael Brennan to point over from 30 metres. Within the minute, exciting young talent, Fergal O’Brien waltzed past his markers to pull level and then Paul MacMahon added another. Churchill scored 5 straight points including a brilliant point from Ivan Parker.

On 16 minutes, Tommy Lynch made an excellent tackle on Michael O’Brien, winning the ball which eventually led to a free which was converted by Eoin Greaney to see us trail by 2 points. The decisive moment of the half and indeed the game match came in the dying seconds of the first half when Fergal O’Brien gave a “Gooch-like” diagonal pass to split the Churchill defence and finding Paul MacMahon who wasted no time in firing past Eoghan O’Brien as the first half ended on a scoreline of St Pats 1-07 to Churchill’s 0-7.

Eoin Greaney had the white flag raised after 4 minutes into the second half and added another from a tight angle 4 minutes later to see us lead by 5 points. Michael Brennan pulled a point back only for David O’Callaghan to restore our 5-point advantage despite appearing to slip before pointing over. Fizzy kept the score difference in our favour when he made a key save to deny Pa McCarthy a goal scoring opportunity which resulted in a point. Churchill hit 3 points in a row including a free taken by goalkeeper, Eoghan O’Brien before Luke Mulligan’s point calmed the St Pats supporter’s nerves. Michael O’Brien convertedfrom a free on 26 minutes to leave St Pats with a single point advantage. Man of the match, Eoin Greaney added 2 consecutive points within a minute and then Breandáin Savage’s point ensured that the cup would be going over Blennerville bridge later that evening as we held on for a victory over a talented and pacy Churchill team as the match ended 1-14 to 0-14 points in our favour.

After the match, St Brendans Board Chairman, Liam Sayers, who is a St Pats man and trained the team many moons ago awarded the cup to captain, David O’Callaghan, praising the standard of play by both teams. Secretary, Michael Moriarty also awarded the man of the match trophy to Eoin Greaney, whose 7 points proved vital in our victory.

A big thank you to manager, Joe Costello and his management team who signed off on a high with a trophy. It was great to see a few of our future stars togging out which bodes for a bright future for the club. Naomh Padraig Abù!!
