Juvenile Academy

U6: Busy & noisy session In Cumann Iosaef this morning! We worked on kicking & passing skills along with the fundamentals. Well done to all for keeping up good energy & concentration throughout the session. Special mention to Rachel Colivet, Luke Galvin & Paddy Costello for shaking off a few bumps very bravely!!
Very well done to our new comer Shovik who has picked up foundation skills quickly and is old enough & ready to progress to U8s.
Keep up the practice at home kids, healthy choices & the inspiration of the Kerry team!!

U8: A total of 19 under 8’s attended training last Sunday in Cumann Iosaef. It was great to see Blake Bowler back Training and he was as sharp as ever. We were also joined by two new girls Ariane & Nicole who amazed all the coaches by how quick they picked up the basic skills.

After our warm up, we worked on our fundamental skills of catching, kicking, hand passing and agility. We finished with a game which was very close and ended in a draw! It was a unique decision for player of the week as it was shared by twin Jace & Rylan Flynn.

Both boys have attended every training session so far this season and they also celebrated their birthday over the weekend. Well done boys! We are back training again in Cumann Iosaef this Sunday at 10am.

We will train indoors for another few weeks before we move out to our Astro pitch in Blennerville. On a final note, it’s important that all boys and girls practise at home with a ball as much as possible so that they can improve as footballer and coaches can expand the training sessions further to more complex skills. See you all next Sunday!

U10: If the Kerry and Dublin teams energised Austin Stack Park on Saturday night well our under ten academy players followed by generating their own octane levels of enthusiasm and energy at last Sunday’s session.

They are also working hard at improving their levels of skill with the emphasis at the indoor sessions continuing to focus on agility exercises, handling the ball and a bit of fun slips in now and then! It was good to see Sam and Stephen back in action. Well done to Aoife on being player of the week as she put great effort and attention into the session.

U12: St. Pats under 12’s were training last Sunday  indoors in Cumann Iosaef. Everyone put in a great effort especially Jamie Samonte, Aidan Hayes, Rory Daly and Gary Scollard. It’s important ye all continue to attend our training. Next session is this fri 15th of feb 5.45pm to 6.45pm on our Astro pitch in Blennerville Gaa Pitch and then again next Sunday 17th of February from 11am to 12pm indoors in Cumann Iosaef so it’s important all our players keep practicing yer skills at home during the week. Naomh Pádraig Abú !!

U14 Boys: Our U14 boys had 2 training sessions last week with about 15 boys averaging a session. Special mention to the boys that turned up last Wednesday evening under extremely wet conditions. Our first match is this Sunday, the 17th when we play John Mitchels in Division 2 of the Tralee Town Board League at 12 noon. Venue for this fixture is John Mitchels GAA Complex. Best of luck to all involved.

Minors

Tralee Town Board Minor League Division Two Round 2:

Ardfert 3-10
St Pats 1-07

Our minors were well beaten by a very physical Ardfert team last Saturday evening in a highly tempestuous match played in Caherslee in the Tralee Town Board Minor League.

The match was only a minute old when Ardfert registered the first score but this was quickly cancelled out by Fergal O’Brien’s brace, including a long range effort with his left foot after 7 minutes.

Ardfert levelled matters with a fine effort from close range and shortly afterwards, Gavin Doody was called to action with a great save from a well-planned Ardfert attack. Martin Savage restored our 1 point lead on 15 minutes from close range but this was cancelled out by another Ardfert point.

Our opponents started piling on pressure on our backs, causing the ball to be turned over a few times which lead to them scoring 3 unreplied points to lead by 3 after 24 minutes.

Fergal O’Brien reduced the tally a minute later and with a couple of minutes of the half left, Tomás O’Sullivan drove a low shot past the Ardfert goalkeeper following a 1-2 combination with Danny Greaney which saw us carry a 1 point lead to the break.

Danny Greaney put us 2 ahead as early as the 1st minute of the 2nd half when he split the posts from about 20 metres. Ardfert responded with a pointed free and 2 minutes later scored a goal by purely muscling their way into our defence line.

Tempers flared not too long after the goal when the referee failed to stamp his authority on the game. This caused a few minutes stoppage after which 2 Ardfert and a St Pats player receive their marching orders.

Playing with a disadvantage seemed to spur Ardfert on as they upped the tempo and registered 2-03 within an 8 minute spell which eventually saw them finish strongly as they ran out comfortable winners on a score line of 3-10 to our 1-07.

Overall, Ardfert were the better side, especially after losing 2 players to red cards as they outran our players for most parts of the second half which they made count.

On our part, there is plenty of room for improvement as we showed encouraging play in patches. There is plenty more to come from this bunch of exciting young guys.

Our next match is away to Kilgarvan/Tuosist in Division 5 of the Minor Football League on Saturday, the 16th of February at 3pm. Keep an eye out on our Facebook page for more details.

Team: Gavin Doody, Darragh O’Connor, Ian McCarthy, Mikey Doody, Brian Teahan, Cathal Fitzgibbon, Martin Savage (0-1), Patrick Dowling, Ali Gardezi, Bradley Lynch, Fergal O’Brien (0-5, 1f), Tomás O’Sullivan (1-0), Danny Greaney (0-1), Nathan Rowan &Nathan Moriarty. Sub: Cormac Lynch for Brian Teahan.

Seniors

St Pats  1-8
Na Gaeil 2-6

Our seniors were just edged out by Na Gaeil in a St Brendans League encounter played in very tough conditions late last Friday night in John Mitchels.

We got a dream start to the match with Eoin Greaney pouncing on a mistake by the Na Gaeil rearguard and finishing to the net. Na Gaeil settled and worked the ball into good positions in attack and managed to draw frees to keep them within touching distance.

St Pats replied with further points from Greaney & David O’Callaghan to keep us in front. However, a defensive lap in concentration allowed Na Gaeil a goal chance which they duly took to put them in the lead. They added a further point which was cancelled out by a Willie Hurley effort a few minutes later to leave the half time score 1-4 to 1-3 in favour of Na Gaeil.

St Pats opened the second half well with a score from the throw in, won by Liam Poff. It was tit for tat for the next 5 minutes where both teams traded points. However disaster struck for St Pats ten minutes into the second half when a short kickout was intercepted by Na Gaeil and finished to the net.

This now provided St Pats an uphill task to claw back the lead given the worsening conditions. But to a man, they ran hard at the Na Gaeil defence and reduced the deficit to a point midway through the second half. However, every time they cut the deficit, Na Gaeil managed to get a point of their own to keep their noses in front. And they held on for a one point victory.

Huge credit to both teams considering they played in a storm! For our own lads, our handling, passing and kicking was a bit off than where it should be but this is understandable considering it was only our second game this year and 3 weeks since we played our first.

We also battled very well after conceding the second goal which is a positive going forward. Our next game is back at John Mitchels where we play the home team next weekend. The game is fixed for Sunday at 2pm but keep an eye on our FB page for any changes.

Team: Joe Costello, Conor Moore, Tommy Lynch, Cillian O’Riordan, Luke Mulligan, Brendan Poff, Brian Murphy, Liam Poff, Paul McMahon, Sean Kerins, Breandáin Savage, Willie Hurley, David O’Callaghan, Eoin Greaney, Gary Savage. Subs: Seán Dowling & Paul O’Sullivan
