Lotto

Our club lotto remains suspended due to Covid-19. While this is a regrettable decision it is necessary to safeguard the health of our club officer’s lotto players and our many promoters. We will gradually be restarting activities over the next month in line with Government and GAA advice.

We thank all our promoters and supporters of the St. Pats Club Lotto and we look forward to your support again hopefully in the not too distant future.

Juveniles

U6: Following in his dad Paudie’s footsteps, Rian Bailey was rewarded for great attention & fun at training this morning.
Welcome to Oisin who joined us for his first time this morning & enjoyed the fun games we introduced. We are working on vision, space & evasion as well as ball handling & kicking skills & a little match to finish.
We welcome all new players to join us in the academy on Sunday mornings at 10.30am.

U8: We had our biggest turn out of the year for our u8s today. After 2 laps with Coach Kieran to warm up we did our skills work before our games tournament.
The Red Team led by Captain Fantastic Thomas Higgins came out on top.
Special mention to Jace Flynn who set a record of 5 goals and 1pt in one match. The girls had a fantastic. Match led by senior player David O’Callaghan and Labhraidh Costello.

U10: A great training session was enjoyed by our boys and girls in training last Friday evening and it is great to see them having fun whilst learning their skills. It is very important that parents bring their kids to training to learn their skills and also encourage them to practice at home.

U12: Naomh Pádraig 5-12 v An Daingean 5-08

Our excellent U 12s recorded a win over Dingle in the 2nd round of games. Dingle led at half time on a scoreline of 4-05 v 1-04.  Dingle started the 2nd half very well and added another goal and 3 points.  However, our lads showed great determination and teamwork and worked some very good scores particularly in the last 10 minutes to win by a 4 point margin.

Panel: Luke Passway (Captain), Ben O’Leary, Jack Costello, Jack Flahive, Garry Scollard, Michael Enright, Ryan Fitzgerald, Conor Sheehan, James Daly, Rory Daly, Kevin Gaxha, Tommy Costello, Hugh Costello, Ryan Fitzgerald, Rodhan Culloo & Darragh Murphy.  Thanks to Dingle for a sporting game and to ref Tom Guerin

We are away to Castlegregory next Sunday, 2nd August at 6pm in Round 3, Phase 1 of the U12 County League.

U14: Our boys had their first competitive game of the year last Wednesday evening when they took on Austin Stacks B side. Well done to all the boys who turned up and it was a first time experience for a large number of the players who played on the full pitch having not played a game since last year as well as our younger U12 boys. Although we lost the match, credit goes to these bunch of players who showed strong character by finishing the last third very strongly. We had a short 50-minute session last Sunday noon with a good turn out again, thanks to those who turned up. We have a bye this Wednesday in the County League so we will either train at our usual time or see if we can arrange a tune up match.

U16: Best wishes to our U16 boys who will play Tarbert in Blennerville, Monday 27th July at 7pm in a Group I Round 2 fixture of the County League.

GAA Health Questionnaire

The GAA has provided a simple Health Questionnaire to be completed once prior to returning to GAA activities by adult players, parents/guardians of underage players and team personnel. While there has been a relatively good completion of the initial questionnaire it is also very important that adult players, parents/guardians of underage players and team personnel logon to the same system before each training session/game and resubmit that their health status has not changed. It takes about a minute to do this and doing so is in the interest of each individual and their team members. The Health Questionnaire is available on a mobile responsive webpage at https://returntoplay.gaa.ie and it is worth bookmarking this page on your browser.

Minor Football Championship

Best of Luck to St Brendan’s Minors who have been drawn to play St Kierans in Round 1 of the Minor Football Championship on Monday August 3rd in Killorglin at 6pm in Na Gaeil. There will be extra-time and result on the day.

Seniors

Kerry Petroleum Junior Premier Club Championship Round 1 Group 1

Gneeveguilla 1-09 St Pats 1-09

St Pats and Gneeveguilla both shared the spoils in what turned out to be a very cracking game played in Cordal last Sunday afternoon.

We started off very brightly and registered our first point through Fergal O’Brien from long range after 2 minutes. Kieran Hurley doubled our lead from a converted free from almost the same spot where our first point was scored and could have added an early goal but for the effort by Gneeveguilla’s goalkeeper who was called upon to deny Kieran Hurley the opportunity.

Brian Murphy also got on the score sheet with a point from play. Our goal came a minute later when David O’Callaghan slotted in from close range to leave the score at 1-03 to no points after 9 minutes. Gneeveguilla in their effort to register a score, threw men upfront and a high ball sent in toward Shane O’Sullivan but he was impeded with the ref blowing for a penalty.

John O’Leary’s effort was saved by captain, Paudie Bailey to preserve or 6 point lead. Eventually, they got on the score sheet after 14 minutes through Padraig Doyle and they went on to score 3 more unreplied points. Both St Pat’s Eoin Greaney and Gneeveguilla’s Padraig Doyle were sin binned within minutes of each other, but we held on to a slim 1-04 to 0-06 lead at the end of the short whistle.

We were only moments in the second half when Gneeveguilla’s Eoin Fitzgerald was black carded for a hand trip on Fergal O’Brien. We threw on double subs in Liam Poff and Breandán Savage who replaced Paul McMahon and Gary Savage respectively and their introduction brought on a different dynamic with the experienced Liam winning possession in the middle of the park, time and again but it took all of 8 minutes before David pointed for the first score of the half to put us 2 points ahead.

Both teams were guilty of tired legs, bad wides and misplaced passes but the will to win the game was never in doubt. Gneeveguilla levelled matters with a late controversial goal which was upheld after the referee consulted with the umpires, and they took over the lead for the first time in the match when Philip Cremin fisted over from close range. Kieran Dwyer scored an audacious long-range point in the dying seconds of the game to level scores as the game ended 1-09 apiece.

Our Round 2 match in the same competition is on Saturday, August 1 where we will be away to Fossa. The match throws in at 7pm.
