Dingle Way Challenge 2016

The Dingle Way Challenge is back and will take place on Sunday the 5th of June. Come and experience the stunning scenery of West Kerry and the Atlantic Ocean as you walk along the most westerly peninsula in Europe, overlooking the Blasket Islands and Skellig Rock and also savour the magic of Inch Beach.

This walk is ideal for groups, teams, friends and solo hikers and you can either opt for The Dingle Way Challenge, a 45km walk which will involve a mixture of beach walks, grass paths and road walking or The Ultra Dingle Way Challenge, a 57km walk which starts at the foothills of the famous Conor Pass, taking you through a tough 12km mountain route across the peninsula before joining up with the DWC route. Juvenile Academy

Academy continues next week at usual time… Huge thanks to Annascaul who were our guests this week and to Castlegregory who hosted our u 8s + 10s last week.  We are having great fun playing against our neighbours and showing great skills each week.

U10’s: St Pats U-10’s had a busy week playing two fun go games against our west Kerry neighbours. On Wednesday evening last we travelled to Castlegregory to take on the local team. The game was well organised and played in a great sporting fashion.

St Pats players performed very well on the evening with Diarmuid Waugh and Daniel Sheehy working hard around the middle as usual, which meant our forward line of Thomas Sheehy, Fionn Dairo, and Grainne Breen had plenty of ball to get some brilliant scores.

Zach Howarth, Mark and Millie O’Brien made some great tackles during the game to keep the Castle forwards at bay. Then on Sunday last we welcomed our near neighbours Camp/Annascaul to our field and it was great to see a lot of skills on display by both sets of players.

There was excellent defending by Zach Howarth, Eddie Stack, Jamie Lynch and Diarmuid Waugh, who ran the length of the pitch on a number of occasions.

Our midfield duo of Daniel and Thomas Sheehy combined very well to feed our forwards of Killian O’Mahoney, Rory Kelliher, Grainne Breen and Fionn Dairo, who scored 5 goals and 3 points. Credit must also be given to Orlaith Murphy and Millie O’Brien who were training with the girls earlier and added more steel to our game when called upon.

The coaches have been delighted with the effort shown by all the players. The continuous improvement of their skills after each outing is great to see and if they continue to practice their skills the future is looking bright for this group of young St Pats footballers.

U12’s: Our U12’s played at home against Austin Stacks (B) last Sunday and showed great improvements.

Our next match is away to Laune Rangers (B) on Sunday 24th April at 6pm.

U14’s: Asdee/Ballylongford 2-9  St. Pats 7-7

Our u14’s travelled to Ballylongford last Wednesday evening and gave an incredible performance in the county league against Asdee/Ballylongford. St. Pats dominated this game right from the beginning. Gavin Doody once again played extremely well in goals making superb saves and finding his red and white teammates for every kick out.

Our backs of Dylan Griffin, Samuel Abubaker, Oisin Tobin, Michael Doody, Niall Mc Carthy and Cormac Lynch all defended very well. Dylan played a stormer making some fantastic blocks time and time again and was ably assisted by Oisin. Michael read the ball to perfection while Niall made some strong tackles. Samuel showed great skill and determination defending ball after ball and Cormac has clearly found a new position in the back line while also making some fantastic runs up the field.

Our midfielders Darragh Moriarty and Jamie O’ Brien fielded some great ball and covered every blade of grass on the field, giving in fantastic ball to our forwards while also getting their names on the score sheet. Our forwards Danny Greaney, Sean Fitzgibbon, Aaron O’ Brien, Tomas O’ Sullivan, Nathan Moriarty and Tadgh Kerins all played very well with Danny and Tomas  linking up very well scoring some great goals and points.

Aaron and Sean played very well on the wing and Nathan and Tadgh both worked extremely hard in the full forward line setting up a lot of scores.

Our subs of Daniel Moriarty, Liam O’Sullivan, Mikee Healy, Colin Doody, Adam Hegarty and Cillian lynch were all introduced and had a huge impact on the game. Once introduced, Colin also added his name to the scoresheet planting the ball into the net after receiving a great ball from Cillian.
This was a great win for these young boys who did themselves and their club proud. Well done boys.

Seniors

Junior Club Football Championship

Duagh 2-05 St Pats 3-11

St Pats made the trip north of Kerry to Duagh on an overcast Sunday afternoon and got off the blocks the much sharper side and were awarded a penalty in the very first minute after Willie Hurley was brought down inside the square by Aron O’Connor when he recieved a through ball from Sean Dowling.

Kieran Hurley scored from the spot and followed this with a point from a free, after Sean dowling was was fouled.

St Pats domininated possesion and were again rewarded after Adrian Greaney made his customary run forward and passed the ball to Willie Hurley who cleverly side footed the ball past John O’Carroll for St Pats second goal after only 7 minutes of play.

Duagh pressed on for their first score but poor shooting let them down and they were punished again by a point from Willie Hurley after Brendan Poff’s effort was blocked. Duagh’s first point of the match came midway into the half and it was from a free pointed by Jer McCarthy.

Their second point came 3 minutes later and it was a replica of the first point from almost the same spot. St Pats responded by scoring 3 unreplied points with the pick of it scored by current Kerry minor player, Kieran Dwyer, who ran almost 40 metres to score a scintillating point that drew applause from both sets of fans.

Duagh continued pressing forward, trying to reduce the deficit and after 25 minutes, a high ball was lobbed into St Pats goal area by Jer McCarthy but wasn’t cleared properly and it broke free to Dinny Lane, who finished from close range.

Brendan Poff added another point from play in the dying seconds of the half to leave St Pats 8 points up on a half time score of Duagh 1-02 St Pats 2-07.

Duagh started strongly in the second half and their efforts paid off when they were awarded a penalty in the 4th minute, which was converted by Jer McCarthy.

Duagh reduced the deficit to two points and this served as a wakeup call to St Pats as they raised their game. Their first point of the half came after 17 minutes from a 45. This was as a result of great fielding by Gary Savage, who transferred the ball to Sean Dowling, but great blocking once again denying him a point.

It was one-way traffic from then as St Pats went on a scoring rampage as they racked up point after point and a goal on the 22nd minute by Gary Savage. It was a comfortable win by St Pats in the end as they finished the game with a K.ieran Hurley point.

There were good performances by Andy Byrne, Kieran Dwyer, Sean Dowling, Brendan Poff and Kieran Hurley. Jer McCarthy was easily the best player for Duagh as he had a hand in all the scores for his side.
