U12’s: We’ve played all our county league matches so training continues this Friday at half 6 in the evening.

U14’s: St. Pats 3-12 Ballydonoghue 3-02

Our u14’s played away to Ballydonoghue last Wednesday night in the semi-final of the county league shield competition and came away with a promising win. This was a complete team effort with every player giving their best throughout the game.

Once again Gavin Doody played outstanding in goals making numerous saves and was assisted by the very capable back line of Cormac Lynch, Michael Doody, Dylan Griffin, Samuel Abubaker and Niall McCarthy. Cormac played his heart out defending and clearing ball after ball while Michael Doody read the ball to perfection on every attack. Dylan Griffin tore into tackles with guys much taller than him and more often than not he came out on top.

Niall and Samuel both defended superbly blocking balls while also driving up and down the field. Shar Chaudhry, our newcomer and a huge asset to the team played outstanding in midfield linking up well with Jamie O Brien who was catching balls out of the sky and also got his name on the scoresheet.

Our forwards of Danny Greaney, Darragh Moriarty, Oisin Tobin, Tomas O’Sullivan, Nathan Moriarty and Colin Doody had a lot of possession throughout the game and they took advantage of their scoring opportunities.

Darragh had his scoring boots on and was on target on every occasion scoring a staggering total of 1-7. Danny and Tomas once again linked up very well, setting up a lot of scores and also scored a point each with Oisin assisting them each time.

Colin Doody who is part of the u12 setup had lots of ball possession and also managed to plant the ball into the back of the net while Nathan popped the ball over the bar with a cute punch. Adam Hegarty was only minutes on the field when he tapped the ball into the net with a stylish soccer style goal. All our subs were introduced throughout the game.

Aaron Murphy played in the back line and defended very well while Mikee Healy, Tadgh Kerins, Sean Fitzgibbon and Eric Son, another welcomed newcomer replaced our forwards and all had a huge impact on the game. Well done to all on a great victory and let’s hope we can bring the shield back to St.Pats Wednesday night!!
The final is scheduled for Wednesday night at 7 pm against Moyvane in Mountcoal. We will have a report on the final in next week’s notes.

Girls: Training is on Friday at 2.30pm in the field. Please note the new date and time

Seniors

St Pats 3-11 Glenbeigh-Glencar 2-15 AET

It was with heavy hearts we left St Pats pitch on Sunday having lost the game by a single point in injury time of extra time after a pulsating game. St Pats can hold their heads high as they gave their all to the bitter end & beyond.

There were times when we thought we kicked the game away but the entire team dug deep & levelled the game on more than one occasion. The visitors were also guilty of poor shooting & it was tit for tat throughout the game.

St Pats opened in whirlwind fashion & threw everything at Glenbeigh/G’car. From the throw in, Liam Poff fisted the ball to Paul McMahon & Kieran Hurley shot over for a point after 30 secs. Glenbeigh/G’car’s first two efforts were wide.

Brendan Poff had our second point after 2 mins & a minute later we gifted the visitors a goal when a poor kick out was picked up by Darran O’Sullivan & Kieran Courtney finished to the net but St Pats recovered quickly when Jake Foley, Jordan Conway & Garry Savage combined and Brendan’s kick was blocked but Kieran reacted quickly by blasting the ball into the net, for a scoreline of 1-02 to 1-00 after five minutes.

The kick out was won by Glenbeigh/G’car but was over carried, Andy sent the resultant free in to Kieran and he converted. A good interception by Brendan & sent the ball in to Willie Hurley & he pointed, leaving the scores at 1-04 to 1-00 in our favour.

St Pats were playing their hearts out but turned over a few balls & Caolim Teahan scored in the 12th minute & followed by point from Gavan O’Grady who took some great scores on the day. St Pats saw a lot of ball over the next five minutes but failed to score &  the visitors also registered three wides.

The kick out was well collected by Kevin O’Shea & sent in to Kieran who scored a great point under pressure, Gavin O’Grady replied with a well taken “45”.1-06 to 1-03 after 23 minutes. The resultant kick out was won by Andy Byrne but turned over on the 40 by Tommy Cahill & Darren O’Sullivan scored from play.

The visitors finished the half very strongly with Gavin O’Grady converting two frees to level the game at 1-06 apiece going into injury time. The kick out was well fielded by Colm McGillicuddy & sent in to C Teehan  but a free out was given.

St Pats turned over again & Gavin O’Grady picked up the loose ball & buried to the net. At this stage, Glenbeigh/G’car were now in the driving seat, and a goal up at the break.

They started the second half where they left off with a quick point from the throw in & hit a purple patch over the next ten minutes but St Pats were guilty of some poor shooting. A kick out was well won by Kieran Courtney but the return shot went wide, Colin McGillicuddy & Jack Brosnan combined for the next attempt but again was wide of the mark.

We welcomed David O’Callaghan back from injury 10 minutes into the game & immediately he linked up with Adrian & Jake to set Willie for a point to reduce the deficit to 3, St Pats upped their game but unfortunately frees were hard to come by, Liam O’Sullivan was pulled & dragged but the ref waved on the play & Liam was left floored but more determined than ever, as he collected the ball from Kevin O’Shea & shot over for great point.

As the game ebbed & flowed some very dubious calls were made by the ref & what appeared to be a foul on Willie resulted in him getting a black card, Seanie Hayes coming on in his place. Disbelief a minute later when the ref adjudged that Kevin O’Shea fouled & he was black carded with Eric Teehan coming into the fray.

This was disheartning for St Pats but the team dug deeper & showed character as the clock ticked down Jordan, Adrian & Kieran Dwyer tore through the defence to set up Liam O’Sullivan for a peach of a goal to level the score again at 2-08 each. Darren O’Sullivan restored the visitors lead after a good run up field & as the final whistle loomed David was fouled & Kieran converted to snatch a draw from the jaws of defeat & take the game into extra time.

A pulsating end & more to come…

Three minutes into extra time the visitors were two points up, Adrian pulled a ball out of the air & left it off to Liam OS & an in-running Brendan Poff dribbled to the net to leave St Pats a point up & Jordan Conway crowned a great performance to score a lovely point which put us two ahead. Jack Brosnan pulled one back from a free & then levelled as the first extra time finished.

Darren O’Sullivan collected from the throw in & Bernard Murphy pointed. A side line free taken by Liam O’Sullivan set David up to level again & for a reason best known to the referee Liam O’Sullivan was black carded. Tired bodies now making mistakes on both sides but the game was still level until a side line ball was awarded to Glenbeigh/G’car and the final score broke the hearts of every St Pats player & supporters alike.

Commiserations but well done to the entire panel & mentors, Joe Costello, Tim Moynihan & Jimmy Mulligan

Club Mass

Special thanks to Fr. Nolan for hosting our annual club mass and bake sale, last Sunday. This was a fantastic community event with great representation by our club juveniles. We’d like to also use this opportunity to thank all who prepared delicious home baked goodies.
