Feile Parade 1

St Pats players in the Féile parade on Saturday.

U14’s/Feile

A huge event took place in the clubs history this weekend when we hosted Delaware Gaels in this year’s Feile competition.  All the preparation by the hard working committee paid off as both kids and supporters all had a fantastic weekend.

The village came alive on Thursday evening when both teams were led over the bridge by a piper to the cheers from the locals who came out to support both teams despite the wet conditions. They were led up through the amazing decorated village to the field where both teams were introduced, gifts of jerseys were exchanged and both national anthems were sang.

From there, it was on to Keane’s for a night of music, song, dance and great food. Both sets of players and their families got to know each other and the party went well in to the night. Marty Morrissey was the surprise guest on the night which added to the great night.

On Friday we all made the trip further west to Dingle for the first game. St Pats played Dingle in the first match and it was one they could have won. The team again showed great heart throughout and were only narrowly beaten in the end and could have possibly beaten them but for some unlucky missed chances.

Next up was the team from Gracefield Offaly who went on to the cup final in the end. This team were extremely strong and physical but St Pats never gave up and worked very hard till the very end. Our team found it very hard to get on the scoresheet but their never say die attitude was great to see.

Saturday saw St Pats host Delaware Gaels in their own pitch and again this game was played in front of a big crowd with a fantastic atmosphere. St Pats played very well on Saturday and it was end to end stuff but Delaware held out in the end.

Next stop was the quarter finals held in Milltown in the afternoon where they again took on a very strong Kildare side. Our players tried very hard but their opponents just seemed to be that bit stronger and found it easier to get scores on the board and won easy in the end.

Over all this St Pats team should be very proud of themselves and the job they did over the weekend. They had lost a few strong players from last year and also Cormac Lynch through injury just before the start of the tournament. But this team has heart and passion in bucket loads and even when loosing they never dropped their heads!

Goalie Gavin Doody played a captain’s role over the weekend and showed why he is on the development squad! He made some fantastic saves again over the weekend and is one to look out for in a Kerry jersey soon.

Our back line showed great heart throughout with Liam O’Sullivan having a man of the match display against Delaware.

Dylan Griffin was brilliant too putting his body in front of ball everytime and not afraid to put his head on the line. He’s another one with great heart.
Micheal Doody showed what a great player he is reading the ball to perfection and never gave up.

Niall McCarthy also made some huge tackles in defence and also covered acres of ground when he fell into a midfield role.

Samuel Abubaker who came into the competition injured played very well in defence and cleaned up a lot of breaking ball but sadly he missed the last game due to injury.

Our midfield duo of Jamie O’Brien and Darragh Moriarty both showed what great engines they are throughout the games. They covered a lot of ground between them and picked off some great scores and they both let off some great ball to set up scores.

Our forwards had a hard time trying to get some scores but again they never gave up over the weekend and produced some great play to provide the team with scores.
Tomas O’Sullivan ran himself into the ground over the weekend and got on the score board several times over the 4 games.

Danny Greaney also had a fantastic tournament and he too created scores with his left and right leg and worked well with Tomas.

Nathan who is hailed the new Star after his two great goals in the quarter finals. He played very well in full forward over the weekend especially in the quarter final.

Coilin Doody who is another guy from the current u12 team played his part and showed that he had no problem playing an age group up.

Cillian Lynch is a team mate of Colin’s on the u12’s and again showed that he had no problem playing up! He left off some great ball when he got it .The future is bright with all the u12’s that played this weekend.

Tadgh Kerins who played in corner-forward played very well over all and created a few chances when he left off great ball.

Sean Fitzgibbon and  Mikee Healy both got a lot of game time throughout the four games and did very well while Adam Hegarty and Daniel Moriarty, both still u12 players proved to themselves and their mentors what great players they are.

The management and supporters can be very proud of this team. Their never say die attitude even when they were really up against it. The u12s that played over the weekend showed that the club is producing some great players and we will see some in Kerry jersey soon no doubt.

As for Feile itself, it was a fantastic weekend and a great experience for all involved.

From the committee to the lads who decorated the village, to members of the ICA who served the tea,  it was a huge event to organise but in true St Pats fashion it was done with great pride and done well.
