U8’s: Well done to St Pats who had a fun game against our friends and neighbours from Camp/Annascaul on Fri last.  After a great tussle, the ref deemed the result as a draw and a rematch has been arranged for Fri next in Camp Sportsfield at 7 pm. This talented bunch played very well and are hugely skilful.

Next Sunday 1 7th of July will be our last academy session before the summer break.

We will participate in the John Mitchels Blitz on July 23rd. Please inform the coaches if your child can’t make it or would need transport.

U10’s: St Pats U-10’s took part in a Fun Go Game against Annascaul last Friday. All our St Pats future stars performed very well on the evening. Zach Howarth, Eddie Stack and Mark O’Brien in defended very well. Diarmuid Waugh and Daniel Sheehy got their hands on an amount of ball around the middle and made some great runs at the opposition.

Our forward line of Fionn Dairo, Rory Kelliher, Jamie Lynch and Killian O’Mahony got some great scores for their team. All coaches were delighted with the effect each player made. It’s great to see the continuous improvement each player is showing on every outing but it is very important that ye continue to practice yer skills at home during the summer.

Special thanks to our St Pats minors Eoin Greaney, Cillian Riordan,Gavin Collins and  Eoin Murphy who helped ref the games for the juveniles on the evening. We have an U-10 blitz next Tues 12th in Ballyheigue at 7pm.  Then on Fri 15th, we are due to play Annascaul in camp at 7pm. Naomh Padraig Abu…

U12’s Mixed: Our mixed u12 team will be competing in the Munster U12 football blitz in Fitzgerald Stadium on Thursday, 21st of July at 11am. There will be a series of games each 20 minutes long and we wish the players and their mentors the best of luck in the games.

U12 Girls: Our girls played their first game of the year and put on an excellent display to defeat our neighbours, Camp/Annascaul in Blennerville last Friday. All our players contributed to this great victory and it was great to welcome 2 new players to the team; Aoibheann Corridan and Ailbhe Daly. They play Camp/Annascaul away this Friday in Camp at 7pm. The future looks bright for these exciting bunch of girls.

U14’s: Our u14’s had a very busy week of football last week playing away to Austin Stacks B’s on Mondayevening and home to John Mitchels on Thursday coming away with one win and one defeat.

Seniors

St. Pats claimed the two league points on offer in this round 6 division 3 encounter played in Blennerville last Saturday. The game was played at a very fast tempo and spectators could hardly blink for fear of missing out on any of the action. The home side made their intentions known very early in the game when Brendan Poff picked up the breaking ball after the throw-in and in typical fashion, raced towards the opponent’s goal area.

He picked out an on-rushing Adrian Greaney who quickly fed for marksman, Kieran Hurley to point from close range. The next score was also from Kieran Hurley and the first point for Ballydonoghue came from Eamon Walsh just after 4 minutes. It was tit for tat from then on with bothsides scoring mostly from mistakes and interceptions from either side.

Ballydonoghue, playing with the wind were three points up after 25 minutes when Dara Sheehy found himself with acres of space after yet another St Pats ball was intercepted to score a point. The home team with their backs to the wall, never gave up and were rewarded with a goal at the closing stages of the half when David O’Callaghan cleverly slotted the ball past Dara O’Shea after receiving a brilliant pass from captain, Luke Mulligan. The away side however scored the last point of the half coming off the boots of Damien O’Carroll to leave the half time score at St Pats 1-06 Ballydonoghue 0-9.

The second half started pretty much in the way of the first half with Liam Poff winning the throw-in and passing to Kieran Hurley to point from close to the 21 metre line off his left boot. Ballydonoghue’s response was almost immediately and it was completely unexpected when left cornerback, Billy Foley put the ball past Paudi Bailey despite the best efforts of the St. Pats defence to clear their area.

Kevin O’Shea tried to restore some belief into the team when he stormed towards the Ballydonoghue goal area and released a belter but for great goalkeeping by Dara, the ball would have ended up in the back of the net.

This spurred on the visiting team and they stretched their lead to 4 points after Jim Cremin scored another point. From here on in, St. Pats couldn’t find a way through to reduce the deficit with Ballydonoghue defending astutely.

Playing into the wind this time, the kickouts from Ballydonoghue went astray on a number of occasions and one of such kickouts fell to Brendan Poff who layed it on for Liam O’Sullivan.

He spotted the run from “Calla” on his left hand side and a quick interchange of passes led to a point. St Pats went on to score 3 unanswered points from Kieran Hurley and a couple from Willie Hurley, leading up to and exciting finish to this pulsating game. The half was marred by too many stoppages due to players cramping and needing attention.

This gave the away side time to re-adjust and they edged foward with sustitute, Padraig Lyons and a Paul Kennelly free. The gods were definitely smiling on the home side as deep into added time, David O’Callaghan was blatantly impeded by a defender, leaving the referee no choice but to award a penalty.

The pressure penalty taken by Kieran Hurley was cleverly slotted low to the right side of the keeper and it will put a lot of the professional soccer players watched on the box  to shame! Despite the pressure from Ballydonoghue to get something out of the game, St.Pats held out for a deserved victory, much to the delight of the fans and players alike.

The final score line was St Pats 2-12 Ballydonoghue 1-14
