Juvenile Academy

Our Academy is on a well deserved Summer break and will resume on Sunday, 21st August. We hope that the players practice their skills during the break.

U6’s: Our u6 boys and girls had a fun session with Camp/Annascaul, last Friday in Camp. It was a delight to see our future stars having fun. During training on Sunday, Stephen Enright was the player of the week. Well done.

U8’s: Well done to our players who had a fun game against our friends and neighbours from Camp/Annascaul on Fri last in Camp despite the bad weather conditions. Congratulations also to Rory Daly for being the U8 player of the week. He showed great skill and determination throughout the training session last Sunday

We will participate in the John Mitchels Blitz on July 23rd at 10am until 2.30pm. Please inform the coaches in advance if your child can’t make it or would need transport.

U10’s: St Pats U-10’s took part in a Fun Go Game against Annascaul  in camp last Friday. All our St Pats future stars performed very well on a wet and very windy evening. Zach Howarth, Jamie Lynch, Daniel Sheehy used their hand passing skills very well out of defence.

Diarmuid Waugh and Thomas Sheehy made some great block downs around the middle while  Fionn Dairo, Mark O’Brien and Killian O’Mahony got some great scores for their team. Despite the weather conditions It was great to see the effort each player gave on the evening.

We were back with our academy last Sunday morning and again our u10 players gave their all to fine tune their football skills. Our U10’s are taking part in the Mitchels Blitz this Saturday July 23rd from 10am until 2.30pm so hope to see ye all there. Naomh Padraig Abu…

U12’s Mixed: Our mixed u12 team will be competing in the Munster U12 football blitz in Fitzgerald Stadium on Thursday, 21st of July at 11am. There will be a series of games each 20 minutes long and we wish the players and their mentors the best of luck in the games.

U12 Girls: Our u12 girls played a return match against Camp/Annascaul last Friday evening and despite having a depleted team and having to “borrow” players from the opposition, our girls put in an excellent performance. It was great to see Grace O’Brien back in the St Pats jersey and playing so well.

U13’s: We are away to Churchill this Sunday, July 24th in the Tralee Town Board League. Throw-in is at 6pm. We wish the team and mentors the best of luck.

Seniors

St Pats 1-14 Brosna 0-17

St Pats and Brosna shared the spoils in this Division 3 Round 8 game played under mild but wet conditions in Blennerville on Saturday evening. St Pats started well registering the first point after 2 minutes when Kieran Hurley pointed. Brosna scored the next two points from Mike Finnegan and Tom McGoldrick, who later went on to score ten points with 6 from frees. St Pats restored their lead when a high ball sent in to the edge of the 21m line by Luke Mulligan was brilliantly fielded by Kieran Hurly who quickly passed to the ball to Willie Hurley to slot the ball past the onrushing Steve McAuliffe for the only goal of the game. Brosna responded with two quick points from Shane Curtin, whose goal-bound ball was blocked by Liam O’Sullivan for a point as well as another from Tom McGoldrick. David O’Callaghan nudged the home side forward when he pointed after side-stepping his marker to shot with his supposedly “weaker” foot. Kieran Hurley streched the lead to two points from a free after a foul on him by Brosna’s Shane Fitzmaurice. This was seemed to wake up Brosna as they hit a purple patch scoring 4 unreplied points to lead by a point after 23 minutes. Another point from play by David O’Callaghan a minute later levelled matters once again and this was follwed by another point from Kieran Hurley.

The stand out point of the first half was scored by Willie Hurley in the 28th minute who skipped past 2 defenders to curl a left footer from an acute angle, which drew great cheer from supporters of the home team. Another point from Willie and Kieran before the end of the half left the home side leading by 3 on a scoreline of St Pats 1-09 Brosna 0-03.

Brosna kept in touch with St Pats on resumption of the second half with a couple of points from Tom McGoldrick . A sour point of the game came after 36 minutes when current selector and centre half-back, Adrian Greaney fell awkwardly after challenging for the ball and hurting his knee.

We wish him a speedy recovery. Brendan Poff scored the first point for St Pats in the second half after 38 minutes but lost out in mid-field and conceded 4 frees, all pointed by Tom McGoldrick which enabled Brosna to lead by two for the first time in the game.

Points from David and Kieran levelled matters once again with ten minutes to go. David Curtin and substitute, Patrick O’Keefe both scored from play to restore a 2 point lead for the away side and they tried to defend this lead by having 13 men behind the ball.

St Pats, to their credit never panicked and despite kicking a number of scorable wides, scored the last 2 points of the game from Kieran and Willie Hurley to leave the final scores level at St Pats 1-14 Brosna 0-17

We are away to Annascaul this Sunday, 24th July in the County League. Throw-in is at 2.00pm. Please come and show your support for the lads. Naomh Padraig Abu!

Plaque Unveiling

Blennerville was the place to be last Wednesday as renowned comedian, Brendan Grace paid a return visit to the village to unveil a plaque to his old friend, Nedeen Kelliher.

He made the trip over the bridge in Derry Kelliher’s trap, reminiscent of the many trips he made with Nedeen in the past. He entertained the crowd with funny tales of Nedeen and his work as a jarvey.

Many thanks to St Pats GAA Club for their support, to Tom and Catherine Quane for providing delicious refreshments and also to the musicians for the great entertainment.

Castlegregory Junior Golf Initiative

A group of Blennerville young people availed of the 8 Get into Golf beginner lessons recently in Castlegregory Golf Club, and saw their skills greatly enhanced, with a nice sociable, fun atmosphere. Junior golf membership is now open, contact either Joan or Patricia at the club house (066) 7139444.
