Juvenile Academy:

The  St. Pats under 8’s  Boys & Girls had a great turnout at training on our new astro turf last Sunday. This new facility at the pitch is a credit to our club and  created great excitement for our juveniles who were first to use it last Sunday.  Everyone put in a great effort at training with Darragh Murphy, Daniel Sheehy, Mark O’Brien and Luke Passway giving it their all during the session.  It is important that ye all keep practicing yer skills at home during the week and we hope to see you all Sunday.

The u10’s had a very good run out on the spanking new astro turf last Sunday morning, sharpening their skills. We had Caoimhe Dairo, Paddy Moran and Diarmuid Waugh giving it a good go. Hope to see you all again next Sunday.
U16’s: our u16’s played their first game last Monday evening away to Castlegregory. Report to follow.

U-14’s:

St Brendan’s League Round 3 John Mitchels 4-1 St Pats 7-7
Our U14’s travelled to Ballyseede for the second game of the season. A host of players returned after missing out the narrow loss to Ardfert and it was great to see a huge squad togged out for the game. Mitchels had the much better start and only for some valiant defending and outstanding goalkeeping by Gavin Doody. Once Fergal & Ali settled into the game at midfield, we began to dictate the play. Although we were a small but wasteful early in the game, we took some fantastic scores to build a sizeable lead at half time of 3-1 to 0-1.

They say goals wins games and it certainly was the case as we continued the second half as we finished the first by taking some lovely goals and kicking points out the field, Patrick Dowling and Ian McCarthy in particular picking off some long range points. The management made a number of substitutions throughout the second half with all players making a huge contribution to the win. We became a bit disjointed in the final quarter and Mitchels never gave up and were rewarded with a couple of late goals.

However not many St Pats teams have had fortune against John Mitchels in recent years so everyone deserves huge credit for the win. Brian Teahan played a captains part at centre back and was ably assisted by Man Of The Match Cathal Fitzgibbon. Well done to everyone involved. This panel of players are learning every training session and game and all have bright futures ahead of them in the red and white.
Team: G Doody, C O’Donoghue, D Quirke, P Murphy, I McCarthy, B Teahan (C), C Fitzgibbon, F O’Brien, A Gardezi, S Abubakar, P Dowling, M Savage, C Lynch, J O’Sullivan, N McCarthy, A O’Brien, M Everett & T O’Sullivan.
Next game is against Na Gaeil this Sunday. Venue and time of throw in to be confirmed by Joe during the week. The county league begins Wednesday April 1st away to Cordal/Scartaglen.

Minors:

St Pats Blennerville 2-13 Ballymacelligott 3-3

Our Minors recorded their third County League win on the trot on Friday evening last when they they defeated Ballymacelligott  in their home patch by 7 points in Round 3 of the competition.

While not taking anything away from the victory, this was a rather lack lustre performance from us, particularly in the first half.

We conceded a goal in the very first minute and seemed to be on the backfoot for the majority of the first period.

Brandon Boyle [2] and Joe Quilter [1] were our point scorers in the first half while Aidan O’Halloran scored our goal in the 29th minute, which gave us the lead for the first time in the game.

Half Time Score:: St Pats 1-3 Ballymac 1-2

Our performance improved on resumption and by the 12th minute, we were leading 2-10 to 1-3, with our 2nd goal coming from Jordan Conway when he latched on to a breaking ball from Aidan following good work by Sean Dowling.

However the home side brought the deficit down to 4 points  with 2 well taken goals shortly afterwards and we were fortunate that they didn’t avail of a few more chances that came their way.

However a well converted 45 by Brandon and a point each from play from Jordan and Aidan  put daylight between the sides again.

To sum up, it was victory achieved, job done and any game you can put 2-13 on the scoreboard while not playing to full potential is not a bad evenings  work at all.

Credit also to Eoghan Dillane and Timmy Daly for assisting Team Manager, Eoin Sayers on the night.

We have a Bye in Round 4 and our next  County League fixture is scheduled for Friday 17th April, when we take on Asdee/Ballylongford in Blennerville in Round 5.

Team:

Sean Hogan, Anthony Craig, Killian Quirke, Killian O’Riordan, Sean Dowling 0-1, Micheal Murphy, Jack Quilter, Keran Dwyer 0-1, Jordan Conway 1-4, Brandon Boyle 0-4, Tommy Lynch 0-1, Joe Quilter 0-1  and Aidan O’Halloran 1-1.

This division 3 round one league tie proved to be a tough and often tempestuous affair between local rivals St Pats and Na Gaeil. Na Gaeil started the game in whirlwind fashion with a point inside 30 seconds from Dara Carmody.

The same player hit four further points for Na Gaeil over the next 15 minutes and was causing all sorts of problems for the St Pat’s Defence.

St Pats kept in touch with points from Gary ‘’Lar’’Savage, Willie Hurley (2), Kevin O’Shea and David O’Callaghan to leave the sides level at the quarter mark. Disaster was to strike for Na Gaeil when Dara Carmody had to leave the field with a nasty leg injury on the 16th minute.

Na Gaeil to their credit upped their game and enjoyed the lion’s share of possession around the middle with Mike Griffin and Jack Barry kicking a point each in the second quarter. St Pats only score in this quarter was a pointed free from the boot of David O’Callaghan to leave the half time score St Pats 0-06  Na Gaeil  O-07

Na Gaeil started the second half with purpose and dominated possession in the first ten minutes.

However Na Gaeil failed to convert this possession into scores and kicked  five very scorable wide’s in this period with Emmet Curran pointing from close range This would ultimately prove costly at the final whistle for Na Gaeil.

Kieran Hurley hit a purple patch in this quarter scoring 3 points to leave the sides level 0-09 a piece at the three quarter mark.

The switch of the game came at this stage when St Pats moved Brendan Poff to the middle of the field in a switch with Liam O’Sullivan. Brendan Managed to break the dominance of Dan O’Connor and Jack Barry and deliver much needed supply into the forward line.

Two minutes into the final quarter Willie Hurley Fielded magnificently 40 meters from the Na Gaeil goal and delivered a high ball into the square, Gary ‘’Lar’’ Savage reached above friend and foe to punch the ball to the net to put St Pats 3 points up heading into the last ten minutes of the game.

Buoyed by the goal St Pats kicked 3 further unanswered points from David O’Callaghan, Kieran Hurley and substitute Eoin Sayers. Na Gaeil to their credit rallied and Ian McCarthy pulled a point back with 3 minutes left.

As the game entered injury time Na Gaeil launched one final assault dropping a high ball into the St Pats Square as the ball bobbled about Ian Mc Carthy connected to pull a goal back however time was up and the two points available went to the home side

This game could have gone either way with the St Pats goal proving to be the decisive score of the game.

Na Gaeil will wonder what might have been if Dara Carmody had remained on the field of play. St Pats will be glad to get back to winning ways but will realise that a major improvement is required for stronger challenges that lie ahead.

The return of David O’Callaghan is a major plus for the saints.

Na Gaeil had good performances from Kieran Dineen, Darragh Sheehy, Michael Collins, Jack Barry, Dan O’Connor, Darragh  Carmody and Michael Griffin

St Pats were best served by Jordan Conway, Andy Byrne, Kevin O’Shea, Brendan Poff (when he moved to midfield), The Hurley Brothers and man of the match David O’Callaghan.

Referee Eddie Barrett issued yellow cards to St Pats Kieran Hurley and Joe Costello, Kevin O’Shea was black carded in the 50th minute with Na Gaeils Jamie Lohan also receiving a yellow card.

St. Brendan’s NS, Blennerville are very proud of their footballers. The girls team qualified for the Brendan’s Board finals of the Cumann na mBunscoil 7 a side competition last week.

Unfortunately they lost in the final but have improved with every game.
Thanks to author and poet Maire C. Holmes who spoke to classes on Thursday 19th March. The children asked some challenging questions and it was a privilege to have Maire in our school. To see more, go
