Seniors:

Our senior team played their last County League game of the year last Sunday where they hosted Tarbert. Played in wet underfoot conditions, both teams fielded very young sides. The poor weather conditions did not allow for free flowing football so it was a very low scoring game. Tarbert had the better of the exchanges in the opening half and they held a 2 point lead at the internal on a score-line of 4 points to 2.

Pats played into the breeze in the first half and had a number of decent scoring chances but they failed to capitalize on them. Tarbert started the second half brightly and they extended their lead to 3 points with a well taken point by veteran John B O’Connell. St Pats eventually began to exert a bit of pressure on the visitors with Paul McMahon and Jeffrey Foley coming more and more into the fray.

Luke Mulligan added his second point of the game in the 35thminute and this was quickly followed up with another point from Brendan Poff and a free from Kieran Hurley to tie the game. It was tit for tat for the final quarter with both sides adding two further points each; St Pats scores coming from Kieran Hurley and Gary Savage. Both teams had good chances to claim all two points but both defences held out. Referee James O’Sullivan blew the final whistle and a draw was probably a fair result. Final Score St Pats 0-7 Tarbert 0-7. Team: J Fitzgerald (c), T O’Connor, S Hayes, C Moore, E Teahan, Jeffrey Foley, S Dowling, L Mulligan (0-2), P McMahon, B Poff (0-2), G Savage (0-1), Jake Foley, J Conway, K Hurley (0-2, 1f) & B Boyle. Subs: D Kerins, T O’Sullivan & K Quirke.

This concludes all football activities for our seniors. 2014 will be definitely a year to forget with our team being relegated to Division 3 for the first time since 2010 and a first round exit in the Junior Championship. The absence of David O’Callaghan was definitely felt throughout the year so his return from his travels should give the team a good boost.

However, on a much more positive note, we blooded a number of up and coming minors into the senior set up towards the end of the season and that will stand to them in their many years ahead in the red and white jersey. We also won the St Brendan’s League so there is some silverware to be acknowledged at the end of the year.

The club would like to thank Denis O’Regan and his management team for their endeavours earlier in the year and also to Joe Costello, Jimmy Mulligan, Eoin Sayers & Eoin Murray for taking the team for the second half of the year. The team will began some strength and conditioning training in preparation for the 2015 season in the coming days. Any player that wishes to participate in this, please contact Eoin Sayers on 087-6230599.
