Amy Shalvey from Curraheen meets actor Jack O’Connell at The Abbey Inn on Friday night.

THERE were a lot of stars around town over the past week for the Festival, but one that went largely unnoticed was a BAFTA-winning actor who was enjoying the atmosphere.

Jack O’Connell, the star of ‘Skins’, ’71’ and the lead actor in ‘Unbroken’, which was in our cinemas over Christmas, was in town with his sister Megan.

Jack, whose father Johnny hailed from Ballyheigue, was recognised by fan Róisín O’Regan from Caherslee in The Abbey Inn on Friday night.

Róisín and her friends, Amy Shalvey and Patrick Walsh hung out with Jack for a while and he told them he was on a short holiday and intended on going to Dingle on Saturday.

The 25-year-old Derby born and raised actor is proud of his Kerry roots and was tweeting good luck to the Kerry team last September.

He won a BAFTA Rising Star Award this year after great turns in ’71’ and ‘Unbroken and is tipped for even better things in the future.

He wasn’t the only famous actor enjoying Kerry hospitality in the past week.

Dominic West, best known as McNulty in the acclaimed HBO series ‘The Wire’, popped by for a seaweed bath in Ballybunion last week.
