A TRALEE man who lit up the U20 Munster Championship for Kerry this year is off to AFL club Geelong Cats in on a two year contract.

Stefan Okunbor of Na Gaeil was named Munster U-20 Player of the Year last month, but his talents haven’t gone unnoticed and he will join fellow Kerry man Mark O’Connor at the club on a rookie contract.

The former Kerry minor All-Ireland winner from 2016 had previously attended trials at an AFL Camp in Florida back in January 2017.

The 20 year old played a big part in the success of Na Gaeil over the past three years, where they reached two junior premier club finals and promotion this year to Division 1 of the county league.

His performances in the U20 Munster championship earned him a number of man of the match accolades and he finished in the Top 20 players of the All-Ireland U20 championship.

The former CBS The Green student is likely to have featured in the plans of new Kerry manager Peter Keane over the next couple of years, but it’s a great opportunity for him to carve out a professional career in Australia.
