STUDENTS are bringing Broadway to the catwalk later this month as Mercy Mounthawk’s Transition Years prepare for the annual fashion show.

The show has been put on by TY students at the school since 2003, with thousands raised for great causes over the years. In fact last year, €9,000 was raised, thanks to a €5,000 donation from Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody (a parent of one of the students has a connection with the family of the singer).

The theme of this year’s show, which takes place on Thursday, October 27 at 7.30pm, is ‘Back To Broadway’ and all profits raised will go towards the Kerry Hospice Foundation and Down Syndrome Kerry.

Students will dress up in costumes from Wicked The Musical, Grease and High School Musical which is the play being put on by students at Siamsa Tire this coming January. There will also be a ‘Roses and Escorts’ segment with representatives from each class.

The students will wear designs from That’s Perfect Tralee, Paul Galvin’s new collection supplied by Dunnes Stores, Celsius Menswear, Sean Husseys, Ryle Menswear, Walsh Brothers Shoes, Batt Coffeys Shoes, Safura RN Fitness and more. Charity shops in the town are also supplying clothes.

There will also be a raffle with great spot prizes donated by local businesses. Tickets will be available to buy from the school or from TY students from Wednesday, October 19 at €15 each.

The staff are also heavily involved in the show with Ms Stacey O’Leary and Ms Mari Kearney coordinating it. Mr Will Nolan and Mr Ronan Redican will live stream the show on the school’s YouTube Channel.

Art teacher Mairead Ryan is working on the design of the stage with the students. Music and dance teachers Ms Emma Nolan, Ms Molly Giltenane and Ms Rachel O’Neill are also working on the performances while Ms Sadhbh Brosnan helped with the posters.
