THE John Mitchels GAA sports hall was home to a chosen few on Friday for the inaugural CBS Primary Hoops Tournament.
Twelve teams from the North Kerry area took part in a basketball tournament which aims to fill a gap in the sporting calendar for primary school boys basketball teams.
“We saw a need for a basketaball tournament for boys, so we set this up and we hope it will continue for a long time to come,” said CBS Primary School teacher and Hoops Tournament organiser, Maria O’Regan.
“The facilities in the John Mitchels centre are unbelievable, every school had a dressing room, so it’s a superb place and we are very lucky to have it in town,” said Maria.
The winning side was O’Brennan National School who defeated, Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn Team One.
MVP’s for the tournament were, Cian Godley (O’Brennan), and Éanna O Conchúir (Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn)
Up until now, there has not been an annual basketball tournament for boys in the town. The schools that took part were: CBS Primary School, O’Brennan NS, Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn, Dromclough NS, Murhur NS, St Brendan’s NS, Balloonagh Primary and Lisselton NS.
