ST Vincent de Paul Tralee has teamed up with Toys Upstairs Toymaster Tralee for the second year in a row, to help bring joy to less advantaged children this Christmas.

This year, the appeal needs the public’s support more than ever with the pandemic set to cause even more hardship for families and stretch the services of SVP in town over the coming months.

The toy shop, located above Kellihers Hardware on Rock Street, took up the mantle of holding the appeal last year, after the retirement of Ann Laide and closure of Caballs Toymaster in June of 2019.

This year presented a problem for the appeal as Toys Upstairs is currently closed to the public due to Level 5 Restrictions.

However, Sharon Sheehan and all at ‘Toys Upstairs’ have come up with a solution where people can buy and pay for vouchers over the phone or at any counter in Kellihers Hardware shop as they are open.

The vouchers will be used to pay for the toys children requested on their letter to Santa, seen by the folks at SVP, so they will get what they asked for on Christmas morning. Toys Upstairs will be accepting monies for vouchers right up until Christmas Eve.

“Any amount no matter how small will be a big help to St Vincent De Paul as all of their other fundraising events were cancelled this year due to Covid,” said Sharon Sheehan of Toys Upstairs.

“Obviously there is a larger amount of people needing help from St Vincent De Paul this year due to families losing jobs over the pandemic,” she said.
