DOWN Syndrome Kerry will be dancing its way onto the INEC stage for what’s going to be a great night of craic at ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ on Friday, December 2

Over the next two months, 24 dancers – including Kerry footballer Aidan O’Mahony, Kerry Rose Danielle O’Sullivan journalist Aidan O’Connor, Sean Taaffe and Radio Kerry’s Brendan Fuller and many more – will be practising for their moment in the spotlight. “This will be my most magical Strictly Come Dancing event to date,” said creative director, Joe Burkett.

“We’ve got 24 great dancers, six of whom have Down Syndrome and they are all committed to the task ahead of them. This will be the first Strictly of its kind as our 12 couples will learn not one but two styles of dance resulting in a dance fusion,” said Joe Burkett.

The inaugural Strictly Come Dancing fundraising event for Down Syndrome Kerry will see 12 individual couple dances, two show stopping group dances from dancers as well DJ Gavin O’Leary who will keep the crowd on their feet until 3am.

The dancers taking part are; Angie Smith, Dermot Moriarty, Claire McCarthy, Cathal Flaherty, Conor Griffin, Ciara Griffin, Susanna Holden, Cathal Griffin, Aidan O’Connor, Danielle O’Sullivan, Kevin Griffin, Tom Lucey, Amy Taaffe, Eve O’Donoghue, Paudie Power, Irene Kavanagh, Sean Taaffe, Paul Scanlon, Grainne Healy, Claire Molloy, Brendan Fuller, Mary Lawlor, Jessica Power and Aidan O’Mahony.

Rachel Fitzgerald, Chairperson of Down Syndrome Kerry said; “We as a committee would like to thank all 24 dancers for taking part in this fundraising event for us. We understand that they are giving up their time and we would like them to know that we appreciate it. We are very grateful for their help and support. We are extremely grateful to the Bon Secours Hospital Tralee Community Initiative Programme for their financial assistance and support for this event.

All money raised from this event will remain in Kerry and will be used in the provision of essential services such as speech and language therapy and occupational therapy. Down Syndrome Kerry’s goal is to help our members to make their own futures as bright and independent as possible by providing them with education, support and friendship every step of the way”

Tickets for this event are priced at €20 and can be purchased from all of the dancers, the INEC Box Office, the Down Syndrome Kerry office, Balloonagh Estate, Tralee and the 321 Shop, High Street, Tralee.

They will be on sale in Scarlett, Scott Street, Killarney and in Sean Taaffe Hair & Beauty, Lewis Road, Killarney and Castle Street Tralee from October 18.
