BALLYGARRY Estate Hotel & Spa has announced they will begin the development of a new spa this autumn.

It will be the latest addition to the facilities at Ballygarry which has transitioned into an Estate property situated on 180 acres of land, showcasing an integrated wetlands, an apiary, wildflower meadows, walking trails and most recently their very own on-site wedding ceremony venue called ‘The Lodge’.

Now, Gina Groves, the manager of Nádúr Spa is working alongside Padraig McGillicuddy to create a new spa development with works beginning in autumn of this year.

Their developments will see a new thermal garden which will double its original size and will feature a glass sauna, an herbal steam room, an additional treatment room, outdoor seaweed baths, a salt room with heated thermal loungers, an invigorating outdoor bucket shower and lastly an additional outdoor hot tub encased in a unique cryotherapy cold water walk with infinity edge offering stunning views of the mountains.

These new developments are set to be complete in the spring of 2023 and will spark a whole new future for Nádúr Spa.

“I am so excited about this new development and hugely proud to still be part of Nádúr’s ever evolving journey,” said Gina Groves, who has been the manager of Nádúr since it opened in 2006.

“Tourism in wellness is expected to grow considerably in the next few years as guests seek to reset their physical and mental wellbeing following a turbulent couple of years.

“The new development will vastly enhance the spa facilities and continue to offer our guests an oasis where they can detach from the chaos of daily life, enjoy quiet time and find a sense of balance.

“Padraig and I have been working on this project since the start of the pandemic and have chopped and changed the design of it so many times but we now both feel that the final design is the right one for the Estate and for our guests needs. I am privileged to be involved in such an exciting project and I look forward to showcasing it to all our guests in spring 2023,” said Gina.

They can charge an EV to full battery in 45 mins, in comparison to a domestic charging facility which can take up to 12 hours.

“This partnership aligns perfectly with our values around sustainability and our shift towards Ballygarry Estate,” said Thys Vogels, Hotel Manager.

“We are delighted to partner with Tesla and be a market leader with regard to EV charging. There is a quantum shift to EV’s and we are in the process of changing one full car park over to this.”

“Tesla drivers align demographically with what Ballygarry has to offer. In addition to this we are already seeing the benefits with guests dining whilst charging as this new station saw EV owners park their car and grab a quick bite of lunch before embarking on their next journey.”

Ballygarry House Hotel staff present the cheque to Louisa Tew of Barnardos.

THE team at Ballygarry House Hotel were delighted to hand over a cheque for over €1,000 to Barnardos last week.

For the last decade, Ballygarry House Hotel & Spa has hosted an annual Easter egg hunt to raise funds for both local and Irish charities. Unfortunately, in light of the current restrictions the event was unable to go ahead this year.

As a result of this, the team decided to take this opportunity to think outside the box and take a new approach towards their fundraising.

.

As Ballygarry House are moving towards a more environmentally friendly future, they wanted the theme of their fundraising campaign, Ballygarry for Barnardos, to reflect this.

The Ballygarry team completed daily clean-ups of their surrounding areas during the month of March. As the team live in various parts of the county their clean-ups were in a diverse range of locations, from beaches, to town parks, local parishes, and more.

Last week the team were delighted to present a cheque for €1,047 to Louisa Tew from Barnardos.

Ballygarry Going Ahead With On-Site Ceremony Venue ‘The Lodge’

.
Proprietor of Ballygarry House Hotel, Padraig McGillicuddy, signs contract with Ned O’Shea Builder to construct ‘The Lodge.

BALLYGARRY House Hotel has signed contracts with Ned O’Shea builders for the construction of a dedicated on-site ceremony venue, named The Lodge.

Speaking at the signing, Padraig McGillicuddy, Proprietor said; “we are delighted to be progressing with this project, which will provide our couples with a stunning venue for their ceremony. It’s a rustic barn style building with New England influences that will overlook the Slieve Mish Mountains & Ballyseedy Woods.”

Ballygarry House decided the time is right to invest in the on-site wedding market. “In recent years there has been a noticeable increase in the number of couples looking to have their ceremony with us on site,” said Padraig.

Continued below…

.

“According to a Wedding Dates survey in 2015, 30% of couples wanted an onsite ceremony now that’s almost 50%. This new development will give us an added advantage. The offering will be to marry in The Lodge, toast in The Pavilion & dine in the Banqueting suite.”

The Lodge will also act as the gateway to the Estate currently being developed, which will compromise of almost 200 acres. As part of their overall masterplan, Ballygarry House are also working in collaboration with Kerry County Council to link into Ballyseedy Woods with two bridges.

“We will have numerous pathways for guests to cycle, run or walk, with benches for a quick rest or just to watch the world go by. As part of our sustainability focus we will neutralise our carbon emissions & treat all waste water simultaneously with our new integrated Wetlands that is ready for the busy season ahead,” said Padraig.

The last part of Ballygarry House’s five year plan is to build a Thermal Garden as a new addition to Nádúr Spa, with three outdoor hot tubs, a plunge pool, saunas, steam room, salt room, seaweed baths, a hundred metre lake joined with a wildflower meadow and bee hives coupled with 21 new guest rooms to manage increased demand.

“Too many times I’ve seen fragmented developments with no long term vision in our industry,” said Padraig. “We are setting our plan through collaboration with Kerry County Council, Failte Ireland, market trends, demands, future direction for the industry and our stunning location.”

Ballygarry House Hotel Signs Up To Flogas Carbon Offsetting Initiative

.
At the presentation of the Flogas Carbon Offsetting Certificate to Ballygarry House Hotel and Spa were Padraig McGillicuddy proprietor and general manager; Michael Murphy, area sales representative, Flogas; Tadgh McGillicuddy, assistant manager and Thys Vogels, hotel manager.

TWO well-known Kerry hotels, the Ballygarry House Hotel and Spa in Tralee and the Castlerosse Park Resort in Killarney, are the first Flogas customers to sign up to the company’s recently launched carbon offsetting initiative.

The two luxury hotels will now compensate for over 700 tonnes in LPG-related carbon emissions in 2020 by investing in climate protection projects via Flogas and its collaboration with South Pole, a gold standard provider of carbon offsetting projects worldwide.

Carbon emission reductions are certified through globally recognised standards and audited by independent third parties.

Continued below…

.

Padraig McGillicuddy, proprietor of Ballygarry House Hotel and Spa, said; “This is a superb initiative and makes us all more accountable for our carbon footprint. We are delighted to lead the way on this and encourage other hotels and industry to do similar and reduce our impact and improve sustainability on our precious planet.”

Carbon offsetting is recognised worldwide as a way of managing carbon emissions.  For a minimal fee, Flogas will purchase carbon credits on behalf of participating commercial customers like Ballygarry House and Castlerosse Park, investing in sustainable global projects that either reduce or capture an equivalent amount of carbon emissions.

John Rooney, managing director, Flogas Ireland said, “We’re delighted to welcome Ballygarry House and Castlerosse Park as our very first customers for the carbon offsetting initiative.  We would also urge other business customers to take a proactive approach towards tackling climate change and differentiate themselves from the competition. Participating customers will be able to display marketing materials and certificates demonstrating their carbon offsets and it’s an excellent opportunity for savvy business owners keen to get ahead of the curve.”

Examples of the supported projects include forest protection, providing access to clean and efficient LPG cookstoves, supporting renewable energy projects and wastewater treatment and biogas utilisation projects.

Ballygarry House Hotel Honoured At Annual Georgina Campbell Awards

.
Ballygarry House Hotel

THREE Kerry businesses were honoured at a national awards ceremony last week.

The winners of the Georgina Campbell Irish Food & Hospitality Awards 2020, in association with AIB, were announced in Dublin and a Tralee hotel was among those receiving plaudits.

Ballygarry House Hotel was Highly Commended in the Business Hotel Of The Year category. The citation for Ballygarry read: “Now in the third generation of McGillicuddy family ownership, this is an appealing hotel and it gives good value for the high standard of accommodation, food and service offered.”

Continued below…

.

“One of Kerry’s most sought-after venues, it is especially popular for weddings but is also an excellent choice for meetings and conferences, offering a selection of very attractive and well equipped rooms catering for anything from a small group of eight to a large conference for up to about 350 delegates – and, in common with other experiences in the hotel, good food and the exceptionally friendly and helpful staff ensure a well run event that makes people want to return.”

Dromquinna Manor, Kenmare was awarded Hideaway of the Year 2020, while Teach de Broc, Ballybunion was Highly Commended as Guesthouse Of The Year 2020.

Of Teach de Broc, the citation read; “Given its location alongside Ballybunion Golf Club, it’s no surprise that many guests at Aoife and Seamus Brock’s spacious and luxuriously appointed custom-built guesthouse are golfers. But all visitors to this popular seaside resort are very welcome at Teach de Broc – and many simply come to eat here, at the impressive Strollers Bistro, which is equally popular with local diners and visitors to the area, as well as resident guests.”

Celebrating 21 years in their current incarnation, the Georgina Campbell Awards recognise and honour Ireland’s standard-bearers in food and hospitality in Ireland with particular emphasis, this year, on the industry pioneers who put down quality markers a generation or more ago.

WHILE the official national Coffee Morning For Hospice takes place around the country next Thursday, it came a week early at Ballygarry House Hotel this morning.

The reason is a very good one however, as this is Listowel Race Week and therefore busier than a regular Thursday morning at the Brasserie and Owen Mac’s Bar.

Guests and visitors gave generously as the staff served up tea/coffee and many tasty goodies, all in return for a donation to the great cause.

This was the 15th year Ballygarry House Hotel took part in the Hospice Coffee Morning and from the looks of it, bringing it forward to today was the right decision.

Meanwhile, next Thursday will see many homes and businesses in the Tralee area organise coffee mornings where all funds raised local, stay local. Scroll down for photos…

Someone Stole A Beehive From Ballygarry House Hotel

.
The bee apiary on the grounds of Ballygarry House Hotel.

ALL at Ballygarry House Hotel were shocked on Tuesday morning to discover one of their beehives had been stolen during the night.

The hotel set up a bee apiary on the hotel grounds some months ago with a number of hives surrounded by a wildflower meadow, with the aim of producing their own honey and of course as an attraction for guests.

However, they received a bit of a setback earlier this week when they discovered one of the hives was missing.

Continued below…

.

Speaking to Jerry O’Sullivan on Radio Kerry’s ‘Kerry Today’ show, Tadhg McGillycuddy from Ballygarry said the thief knew what they were doing as they took the strongest hive. The bees would have been settled in for the night, but Tadhg said the thief would have to be suited up in the protective gear.

Despite the theft, Tadhg said they still have six hives so they were looking forward to harvesting honey later on in August/September. He hopes by highlighting the incident that it will deter further thefts.

BALLYGARRY House Hotel lined up another egg-stra special family event at the annual Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday in aid of Barnardos Children’s Charity.

The Easter Bunny, the guest of honour was having a hopping good time at the Easter Egg Hunt.  Almost 150 boys and girls met with Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White and the Easter Bunny before heading off on their garden hunt to gather Easter Eggs hidden throughout the gardens.

Delighted children (and adults!) were treated to music and dancing, face painting and a fun and entertaining puppet show.

The annual Easter Egg Hunt has grown in huge popularity, with all money raised donated to Barnardos. This fundraising event has kindly been supported again this year by Cadburys Ireland, who generously supplied all of the Easter Eggs.

“We are delighted to be involved in a family friendly charity event at Ballygarry House. Many of the staff donate their own time to make the day a success in aid of a worthy charity Barnardos,” said Thys Vogels, Hotel Manager.

In addition to the hotel’s own Easter Egg Hunt, the hotel made a donation of chocolate Easter Eggs to the Children’s Ward at University Hospital Kerry and Bon Secours Hospital.

Throughout the years, the management and staff of Ballygarry House have raised over €10,000 for a selection of local charities through fundraising alone.  Scroll down for photos…
