TRALEE finished 25th in the latest IBAL survey of Irish towns and cities (click here for full story) but what did the An Taisce judges have to say about the town?

Here’s their report on specific areas…

Tralee: Tralee is again Clean to European Norms status, although this year’s result was down on 2013. A number of car parks were littered and a derelict site opposite the Manor West Hotel helped bring down the overall ranking. The streets themselves were typically free of litter.

Ashe Street.

Ashe Street: Grade A. This was a very good site. The overall presentation was fresh and clean and the substantial flower boxes added some great colour.

Castle Street – Upper and Lower: Grade A. This street was generally in good order and despite high levels of activity it was very clean. Chewing gum was very obvious.

Killorglin Road: Grade A. The road surface / markings / signage were in good order and the overall presentation of this road was good – there was an absence of litter along the area surveyed.

Car Park and Environs beside XtraVision: Grade C. The shrubbery area was riddled with litter and the overflowing Green bins contributed to the problem. A more thorough approach to cleaning is required at this site as it takes away from an otherwise well presented environment.

Recycle Facility at Aldi Car Park: Grade B. This was an untidy and littered facility – the level of litter was such that if not addressed it could easily become a seriously littered site.

Tralee Bus and Railway Station: Grade A. A well presented and maintained environment – car park and shrubbery area within were well maintained.

Derelict Site on Tralee exit opposite Manor West Hotel: Grade C. This site was in a very poor state – it was the worst of all the sites surveyed in IBAL Anti-Litter Survey in Tralee. It very much takes away from the appearance of this route.

Mitchel’s Court: Grade A. (Residential) A freshly presented and maintained residential environment – there was a complete absence of litter throughout.

Aldi: Grade B. This site just missed getting the top litter grade. The overall environment was in very good order but the litter in the surrounding shrubbery brought down the litter grade.

Tralee – Limerick Connecting Road: Grade A. This was a commendable site with the overall result top ranking. There were no litter problems to report.
