TALKS are advanced on moving the Rose of Tralee selection nights to the Kerry Sports Academy at the Munster Technological University campus in Tralee.

Speaking on Radio Kerry’s ‘Kerry Today’ show this morning, Chief Executive of the Rose of Tralee International Festival, Anthony O’Gara, said they are currently in discussions with the MTU about hosting the event there.

“We are in discussions with the MTU and they are going very well. Hopefully we can bring that to a conclusion, but we’re not taking anything for granted. We are still going through the formal process,” he said.

He said he didn’t envisage any problems with the logistics of holding the event there, including bar and catering facilities. Mr O’Gara also said they are hoping to have secured major sponsors for the festival in the next few weeks. RTE has already signed a three year contract and Kerry County Council is also committed to the Festival.

He also said the Festival is planning on engaging with communities to have local Rose selections around the county in Killarney, Dingle, Listowel etc. and indeed throughout the country.

Mr O’Gara also said there may be a fundraising aspect to these events with local charities or causes benefiting.

The official launch of the Rose of Tralee Festival will take place in Dublin on Friday, February 11.

  1. Well done O’Gara… moving the festival to a gym and the headquarters to an obscure hotel with almost no parking… what stupid decisions! What a hopeless grasp of what the Rose of Tralee is all about. Who is this guy?

The past Rose of Tralee was terrible…in the 80’s I recall all sorts of stalls selling all sorts of stuff all over town, almost every house in Tralee was a B&B and the 2fm’s beat on the street was in Denny street…it was wild!

Besides, the town businesses were losing out, the hotels were losing out and radio Kerry were losing out.

it’s people like Anthony O’Gara who are responsible for making the Rose of Tralee into what it is today?

    To be honest it’s a zombie 😉
