Tapas Championships In Tralee Will Be A Tasty Attraction For Foodies

THE first All Ireland Tapas & Pintxo Championships are taking place next month in Tralee and events are taking place around it which are a must for foodies.

Taking place on Tuesday, April 9 and Wednesday, April 10 and hosted by Taste Kerry and the IT Tralee Culinary Department, 20 chefs will vie for the prize of representing Ireland at the World Championships in Spain.

The public can also go along to watch the competition in the auditorium at ITT from 10am each day with the event being judged by a panel of judges including well known Head Chef at Sol y Sombra, Gorka Arrieta, Robert Curley of Slemish Market Supper Club and John Harty of Taste Kerry.

Meanwhile, two events in Tralee and Killorglin will allow the public to sample some excellent food over the few days.

On Monday, April 8, Sol y Sombra in Killorglin will host an evening of Irish-Spanish Fusion with  team of chefs collaborating to deliver this fabulous 10-course Tapas and Pintxo dining experience.

Leslie Williams, Wine Critic for the Irish Examiner, will present six Spanish wines to be paired with the dishes. The evening will kick off at 7pm.  Tickets are €50 for Tasting Menu & Wines. To find out more click here

Then on Tuesday night, April 9, at The Ashe Hotel, A Pintxo Experience will take place. This event will be focused once again on the fusion of Irish and Spanish food culture, with an emphasis on the role of Tapas and Pintxo in Spanish food culture.

The evening, hosted by Chef Robert Curley of Slemish Market Supper Club will include guest panel discussions on these topics facilitated by Chef Chad Byrne, lots of tips and ideas for hosting your own tapas and pintxo evening while tasting delicious foods and fine wines. This evening of Pintxo and wine will run 7pm-10pm. Tickets at €30 are available now on 086 2408237.
