STUDENTS from Mercy Mounthawk took on the teachers in a fundraising basketball match recently and the main winners were the Donal Walsh LiveLife Foundation.

The event took place as part of the schools Health and Wellbeing Week held from October 8 to October 12, as teacher Olivia Dineen explained.

“The Transition Year active leisure class decided to organise a teachers versus pupils day, so they held challenges in the Centenary Hall that morning and in the afternoon they held the basketball game in the gym where they charged €1 entry.

“Elma Walsh had given a talk to them earlier and they decided to donate the proceeds to the Donal Walsh LiveLife Foundation,” said Olivia.

Elma returned to the school on Tuesday to accept the cheque and she expressed her gratitude to all at Mercy Mounthawk.

“A massive thank you to the teachers and students who took part. The teachers won and I’m surprised the students didn’t do better!” she joked. “It was a great event and they were very good to think of the Foundation and raise funds for it.”
