The funeral procession passed the entrance to Cois Coille where young Dylan McCarthy lived.

THE young Tralee man who died in a car crash on Saturday was laid to rest in Rath Cemetery on Wednesday afternoon.

Sixteen-year-old Dylan McCarthy from Cois Coille in Tralee and 17-year-old Anthony Battles from Hazlewood Drive, Ballyspillane, Killarney died when their car hit a ditch on the Killarney side of Glenflesk village in the early hours of Saturday morning.

There were poignant scenes at the funeral at St Brendan’s Church on Wednesday afternoon, as a van, containing a massive wreath saying ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’, followed the hearse out of the church grounds.

The van’s sound system played the famous Liverpool FC anthem as family and friends of the 16 year old walked alongside a  white horse drawn carriage, adorned in wreaths and tributes to the young soccer-mad teenager.

The procession went up Monavalley and onto the Killeen Road as it passed the estate of Cois Coille where Dylan lived.

Gardai are still trying to piece together the last movements of their silver Toyota Avensis car and would like to hear from anyone who saw it late Friday night or early Saturday morning.
