University Hospital Kerry sign 2THE brother of an 18 year old woman in University Hospital Kerry waiting to be transferred to Cork or Limerick hospital for a life-saving operation, has been given assurances by a member of government that a bed will be available in Cork later today.

Paddy Kevane went public on national radio yesterday about the plight of his sister Breda who has been in an induced coma in intensive care in Tralee for the past 11 days, but needs to be transferred to Cork or Limerick to have a special operation to clear her airways. However the HSE said there was no bed available at the moment. (see previous story here)

Now Paddy has been told by a member of government that a bed will be available in Cork later today.

He spoke to Radio Kerry’s ‘Talkabout’ programme this afternoon and said he had been contacted by a member af government to say a bed should be available by this evening. Paddy said he had been contacted by a number of TDs and senators about Breda’s situation since he went public yesterday.

Paddy said it was great news, but he’ll only be happy when he sees his sister in that bed in Cork. He also thanked everyone who has given support to the family since they went public yesterday.
