TG4 Poll Shows Areas Where Candidates Are Strongest Around Kerry

A CLOSER look at the TG4 Kerry constituency poll results released last night reveals some interesting trends.

The poll which was carried out last weekend saw Sinn Féin’s Pa Daly and Michael Healy Rae both on 20% and leading the field. TG4’s Sean Mac an tSíthigh tweeted more data from the poll last night revealing where support for the main candidates is strongest around the county (see graphic below).

In the case of Pa Daly, his vote is strongest in the Listowel area at 27% followed by the Tralee area 25%, Killarney area 14% and South and West area 12%. He is also strong among female voters getting 22% of their vote and 17% of male voters. The 18-34 age group is his strongest demographic at 24%.

Michael Healy Rae is also strongest in the Listowel area at 29%, South and West area 20%, Killarney 19% and weakest in the Tralee area at 15%. He is also strong among female voters at 22% of the vote and 18% of the male vote.

Minister Brendan Griffin.

Fine Gael’s Brendan Griffin — who is on 17% — is naturally very strong in South and West (25%) and Killarney (23%) but less so in Tralee (14%) and Listowel (3%). He got 20% of the male vote in poll and 13% of the female vote.

Fianna Fáil’s Norma Foley — at 10% of the vote — polls low in South and West (2%), better in Killarney (9%) and Listowel (8%) and strongest in Tralee (18%). She received 11% of the female vote and 9% of the male vote.

Green Party candidate Cleo Murphy — on 9% — polled very well in South and West Kerry (19%) with 6% in Killarney, Tralee on 7% and Listowel on 3%. She received 11% of the female vote and 7% of the male vote.

Fianna Fáil’s John Brassil is also on 9% in the poll. His strongest showing was in Tralee at 12% followed by Listowel (10%), Killarney (7%) and South and West (5%). He was more popular with males (10%) than females (7%).

Fine Gael’s Mike Kennelly polled at 6%. Naturally the Listowel native received his strongest support there (17%), followed by Tralee (4%), South and West (3%) and Killarney (2%).

Cllr Norma Moriarty

Fianna Fáil’s Norma Moriarty is on 4%. She received 11% of the South and West area vote, with 3% of the Killarney vote, 2% in Tralee and 0% in Listowel. She was equally as popular with males and females (4%)

Independent Danny Healy Rae is also on 4%. He received 0% in the South and West area, 14% of the Killarney area vote, 0% in Tralee and 1% in Listowel. He got 5% of the male vote and 2% of the female vote.

Just 5% of those polled were undecided and excluded from the data results. The poll was carried out by Ipsos MRBI on Saturday on Sunday last, on 538 people. It was carried out on mobile phones and landlines. It has an estimated margin of error of plus or minus 4%.
