‘The Gathering’ Is A Must For Lovers Of Traditional Music And Dance

The Gathering is always a big draw for trad music and dance lovers.

THE 21st Gathering Traditional Festival returns to the Gleneagle Hotel Killarney from February 26th – March 1st with concerts, céilís, and sessions around every nook and cranny.

This five-day festival attracts music fans from the US, Britain, France, Germany and all over Ireland. A festival favourite the céilís return to The Gleneagle Hotel Ballroom and feature, Neily O’Connor, Uí Bhriain, Shandrum Céilí Band, Striolán Céilí Band & Johnny Reidy

The 2020 concert line-up includes Donal Lunny, Andy Irvine & Triona, and Maighread Ni Dhomhnaill, Kevin Burke, Backwest, The Bonnymen, Jackie Daly, Matt Cannich & Paul De Grae plus A Tribute Ann Keane with A Four-Star Trio.

The traditional singers’ concert this year will feature singers from Cork and Kerry including Róisín Ryan, Christy Cronin, Pat Sullivan, Marian and Kathleen McCann, Tom McKenna, Ciara O’Shea, Jim Walsh, Liam Randles, Richie Fitzgerald, Gerry Kelliher

The Gathering Festival plays host to numerous music and dance workshops throughout the festival. These workshops have been a fixture at The Gathering Festival for many years, and help players improve their skills with some of the best tutors around.

This includes advanced set dancing workshops and instrument workshops in Fiddle with Kevin Burke and Accordion with Derek Hickey

On Sunday, March 1st, the Speks present a lively show of nursery rhymes and sing-along songs set to acoustic Irish music which will have adults and kids jumping in their seats.

Their hand-clapping, toe-tapping, hearty-laughing show is all about life on Glasses Island – a magical island off the coast of Co. Clare where everybody wears glasses. This will be a fantastic, fun event for kids aged 2 to 92.

The Gathering Traditional Festival is a lively weekend of traditional music & dance which celebrates the rich culture and diversity of traditional Irish music and dance and is the perfect weekend for hardcore trad fans, and also for anyone who enjoys traditional music and culture or just having the craic!
