IT’S that time of the year again when performers from all over the country and beyond come to  Tralee for the annual National Circus Festival of Ireland.

It kicks off today, continuing until Sunday and will see shows, workshops, street entertainment, parades and more over the next few days.

Organised by Tralee man Con Horgan, there’s a packed schedule of events in venues all over town. One of the highlights is the Circus Siamsa, a variety show, held on Saturday in Siamsa Tíre theatre at 2pm and 5.30pm.

This year, as every year, an entirely new show has been created by Fanzini Productions  bringing the stars of contemporary circus, street and variety performance to the stage in Siamsa.

The Circus Convention takes place every day with open training and workshops in juggling and prop work.

On Friday, there’s lunchtime walkabouts in the town centre between 12noon and 2pm and with the weather forecast looking good, it’s a great opportunity to see some of the acts.

Friday evening sees Fauna — a captivating exploration of primal behaviour created by performers from leading circus companies Gravity & Other Myths, NoFit State Circus, Seven Fingers and Poivre Rose — perform in Siamsa Tire from 8.30pm to 9.30pm.

This is followed by a parade to town from Siamsa and The Lords Of Strut will present a DJ set at the Festival Club in The Grand Hotel from 10.30pm.

Saturday sees loads of workshops and events around town as well as the Circus Siamsa shows in Siamsa Tire and Kevin McGahern will be the MC at the Festival Club in The Grand Hotel later that night.

It all ends with a parade through the town at 3pm on Sunday and post-parade show from Bubblecirkus.

There’s many more amazing highlights, too many to mention here, so the best advice is to head to the National Circus of Ireland website to see the full programme by clicking here to see the full programme and make some bookings.
