PEOPLE of all ages got up/stayed up early this morning to take part in the Darkness Into Light Tralee walk for Pieta House.

Tralee Bay Wetlands proved the perfect venue and the dry weather also played its part to enhance the atmosphere as thousands of people set off at 4.15am.

Con O’Connor of Pieta House praised the organisers and said it was a special morning.

“To see thousands of people relaxing and just sitting for hours afterwards, totally calm conditions without a ripple on the lake and the steam rising from the heat of the early morning sun was just so spiritual and uplifting for so many people there,” he said.

“We are so grateful to Electric Ireland, the Tralee Bay Wetlands for allowing us use their facilities, Nathan McDonnell and his staff were brilliant and a big thank you to all those who took part. There’d be no walk but for them,” he added.

“The Town Park under Jackie O’Mahoney’s team was out of this world and the music in the Wetlands by the children’s choir was spectacular,” said Con.

“The other walks in Kerry were also a great success and nationally 200,000 plus walked. We are so grateful to all our committees whose dedication and work has made the whole event such a success again,” he said.

The event is going from strength to strength so well done to the organisers and all who took part. Scroll down for photos courtesy of James Brown Photography
