THE 158th annual Listowel Harvest Racing Festival is well underway at the moment out on ‘The Island’ but the real style stakes begin on Thursday.
Fashionable racers of all ages can enjoy three days of Best Dressed competitions, including dedicated categories for gentlemen, ladies, younger racers, vintage lovers, couples and new this year – the Most Stylish Selfie!.
On Thursday, The East River Store Best Dressed Man attracts well-dressed gentlemen from all over Munster and beyond. All sharp dressed men of all ages are eligible to enter and the first prize is €1,000.
Then it’s the big one on Friday for the McElligott’s, Tralee / Honda Ladies Day.
One of Ireland’s most glamorous events, the judges are Maura Derrane, the TV personality and presenter of the Today Show, and James Patrice, Snapchat Star.
The cash prize fund has been increased to €6,000, with prizes for Best Dressed Lady, Best Dressed Couple, Jazziest Headpiece, Most Glamorous Young Racer, and new this year, Most Stylish Selfie!
Also for Ladies Day, the Directors of Listowel Races have organised a complimentary Double Decker bus service from the centre of Listowel Town to the race course every half hour from 12.30pm. There will also be complimentary flip flops and ponchos – so ladies can arrive pain free and in style for the day!
On Saturday, the festival will wind down with the Best Up-cycled / Re-styled or Authentic Vintage outfit event.
The Listowel Tidy Towns Group, in association with An Taisce, present the event which will be judged by fashion blogger Orlagh Winters and Susan Vickers from An Taisce.
There will be five male and five female finalists and the overall winner in each category will receive a €300 cash prize, with generous prizes sponsored by Listowel Race Company, McCarthy Brokers of Listowel, Broderick’s Pharmacy and the local businesses in Listowel Town.
This is the fourth year Tidy Towns are hosting this event to highlight the potential of Waste Minimisation, in the imaginative reuse of items we may have previously just discarded.
