THE Threshold shop in Milk Market Lane/Market Place in Tralee is to close.

A statement on the shop’s Facebook page, posted last week, said; “It is with a heavy heart I can confirm that we will be closing down on September 30th. I want to thank everyone for their support and donations over the years,a huge thank you to all the staff and our amazing volunteers who without we wouldn’t have been to do all our fund raising —  Joanne”.

Speaking on Radio Kerry’s ‘Kerry Today’ programme this morning, Niall Horgan Regional Manager with Threshold, said the board of Threshold decided five years ago not to renew the leases on their charity shops.

He said it was decided to invest in other methods to fundraise for their services and that it was difficult to justify keeping their shops open for the return they were getting.

He thanked the public for the generosity and the staff and volunteers for being so giving of their time.

The charity works to prevent homelessness and campaigns for housing as a right. Mr Horgan said people in Kerry can still contact them at their Cork office for advice and they were looking at setting up a clinic every couple of months to facilitate meeting people in Tralee. People can contact them on a freephone number 1800 454 454.

It is the second charity shop to close in Tralee this year after Enable Ireland announced they were closing their Abbeycourt shop in May.
