Top Trad Musicians Set To Play Concert At Dúchas In Tralee

MACALLA na hÉireann, the 2019 Comhaltas Concert Tour of Ireland will perform in The Dúchas Comhaltas Centre in Tralee, on Wednesday October 16 while on this year’s 14 venue tour.

Sponsored by Bus Éireann this annual Concert Tour Bus features the best of traditional talent drawn from the four provinces of Ireland. Comhaltas also receives funding from the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.

Each year the tour assembles a fine mix of established artistes together with up-and-coming young stars.

These are blended together into a fast-moving and exciting show of traditional Irish music, dance and song that appeals to both the connoisseurs and peripheral fans of Irish traditional entertainment.

Macalla na hÉireann reflects the breadth and depth of traditional Irish music, dance and song and is produced by renowned musicians Cian Kearins and Niamh O’ Sullivan.

Local Kerry musician Timmy Flaherty joins the tour this year on Uilleann Pipes and Banjo. Twenty-one-year-old Timmy is a multi-instrumentalist who has impressive musical skills on banjo, uilleann pipes, mandolin, tenor guitar and tin whistle.

He regularly competes at Fleadhanna and has won five All-Ireland titles: Banjo U12 (Cavan, 2010), Mandolin 12-15 (Cavan, 2012), Banjo 15-18 (Ennis, 2016), Mandolin 15-18 (Ennis, 2016), Senior Uilleann Pipes (Drogheda, 2018).

His major musical influences are his former teachers, Aisling Neville and Willie Larkin. Timmy performs every summer with Siamsa Tíre in Tralee and is currently studying Primary School Teaching in Mary Immaculate College.

The remaining line-up includes a host of fine musicians, dancers and singers from all over the country.
