TRALEE actor Timothy V Murphy mightn’t be home as often as he has been over the past few months, after it was announced the show he’s starring in won’t be coming back for a second season.

FX channel’s ‘The Bastard Executioner’ was filmed in Wales over the past number of months, but its creator, Kurt Sutter, decided to scrap a second series due to dwindling ratings. This is unusual, as it’s normally the network that drops the axe.

The Oakpark native was able to visit his hometown a few times over the past number of months thanks to the nearby filming location – as well as crossing over to the Kerry v Dublin All-Ireland final – but it looks like the ‘True Detective’ and ‘Sons Of Anarchy’ star will be staying Stateside working on projects.

Kurt Sutter, whose biker drama Sons of Anarchy remains the most-watched series in the history of the FX channel, took out a large ad in the Hollywood trade magazines to announce the end of the violent period drama set in the 14th century.

“The audience has spoken and unfortunately the word is ‘meh.’ So with due respect, we bring our mythology to an epic and fiery close,” wrote Sutter.

It’s not known if we’ll get a chance to see the one and only season of the show on the UK FX channel over here.
