THREE Gardaí based in Tralee, including Kerry All-Ireland winner Aidan O’Mahony, are to be honoured next month at the 2014 Coiste Siamsa Sportstar Awards which will be held at The Malton Hotel, Killarney.

The awards are presented to Garda members who have achieved success in their chosen sporting areas, locally, nationally and internationally.

Joining Aidan on the night to receive awards are fellow Tralee based Gardaí Ernie Henderson,  and Seamus Moriarty.

This is the second time Aidan has picked up a Gaelic Football Coiste Siamsa Sportstar Award having previously collected one in 2006.

Picking up an Angling Award will be Ernie Henderson along with the rest of the Garda Angling Team who won a gold medal at this year’s European Police Freshwater Fishing Championship held in Belgium in September 2014.

The Garda team has won medals at this event every year since 2010, including gold in 2010 and 2011.

Seamus Moriarty picks up the Administration of Sport award.

Seamus is described as a cornerstone of Na Gaeil ladies football club in town which won county, Munster and All Ireland titles last year.

He uses his role as a Garda to promote community involvement and organises an annual football tournament where the Kerry Garda Ladies team take on local teams and raise money for charity.

His other passion is cycling and has initiated a Cycle Safety campaign for children, which is used to promote safe cycling for children in Kerry Division.

They will be joined by many other gardai from around the country at the awards on Friday, November 21.
