The Darkness Into Light event takes place around the county this weekend.

TRALEE Bay Swimming Club are set to take the plunge this weekend as they get ready to take part in what will be Kerry’s first ever ‘Darkness Into Light Swim’ with funds from this going towards Pieta House.

Tralee is amongst the few locations in Kerry that will not be hosting a ‘Darkness Into Light Walk’ which will be taking place around the country this weekend to raise funds for Pieta House.

The swimming club therefore has taken it upon itself to do their own little part to help fight suicide by organising the swim.

The swimmers will be meeting at 5am in Fenit this Saturday May 9 and then will proceed to swim along the shore and will cross their own finishing line just as dawn is breaking.

For safety reasons, the event is only being offered via invitation only and is geared more towards the experienced swimmers.

The club will be collecting donations for the event with all proceeds going towards helping the suicide and self-harm prevention work being done in the Pieta House centres in both Tralee and Castleisland.

If swimming isn’t your thing, then you can still sign up to take part in the various walks that will be happening in Killarney, Dingle and Listowel this weekend by clicking on the website here.

Pieta House in Kerry can be contacted on (066) 7163660.
