Round 4 Of our World Series took place on Tuesday night.

The Swim was The Donald Walsh Memorial Swim and BBQ with 2 perpetual trophies up for grabs.

All of the 20 or so volunteers were in place well before starting time setting up the BBQ and getting Kayaks and stop watches ready.

It was a mixed evening with a northerly breeze, but this meant the water was calm and  perfect for the 76 swimmers taking part. First into the water were the elite Grp A closely followed by Grp B  and then Grp C  and D went off together.

There was a fierce battle the whole way between 4 swimmers in Grp A who were side by side the whole way and when each swimmer tried to break away the others responded.

Gerard Pierse finally had enough to pull away at the end to set the wastes time and secure The Donald Walsh Plaque.

He was closely followed by Brendan OConnell, Martin O’Regan and James Slade. So after handicaps were applied Grp A was 1st Martin ORegan, James Slade, Gerard Pierse.

Grp B was 1st Niall O’Loinsigh, Tom Brosnan, Dominic Rollo Walker  and Grp C was 1st Seamus Smith, Leanne McCarthy and Suzanne O’Sullivan.

The winner of The prestigious Donald Walsh Memorial Cup was Niall O’Loinsigh.

Well done all!  The swim was very kindly sponsored by Dominic Walsh Photography and there were some great prizes for all of the winners as well as 5 spot prizes.

The BBQ was a great success with over 160 burgers consumed! A big thanks to all of the volunteers who make these nights happen.
