Winter Swimming

Our Turkey Series on Sunday Mornings has turned out to be a huge success.

Round 1 had 9 swimmers taking part and Round 4 last Sunday had 27 swimmers. The beautiful calm weather and blue skies were a help, but with an air temperature of 6c and water temperature of 7.2c it was a huge challenge to all swimmers.

Everyone was smiling afterwards which is a great sign of an enjoyable morning. As usual there was plenty of hot drinks and goodies available afterwards.

Every Sunday sees a couple more newcomers and a big welcome to Willie Kelly, Bernard McElligot and Maureen Molyneaux who joined us.

Tommy O’Connor even flew in from San Francisco for a swim! Well done to Bob Fitzsimons who completed his 150th swim to the diving boards and back this year. A huge well done to all of the regulars as well who have all abandoned their wetsuits for the winter swims.

Four swimmers have now completed all four rounds, Nicola Moore, John O’Sullivan, Declan Crowe and myself.

The 7 Rounds of the Turkey Series will continue until the 14th of December when all the swimmers names will go in a hat for a draw for a Fresh Free Range Turkey and loads of consolation prizes.

Everyone is welcome and it truly has turned into a great social morning out.
