TRALEE Boxing Club’s Patrick McCarthy is within one win of at least a bronze medal at the European Junior Championships.
The local boxer advanced to the quarter-finals of the 32-nation tournament held in Bulgaria this week with a 5-0 win over Owen Paton from Scotland in the 48kg category.
The Tralee BC light-fly, regularly scored with his left, and produced an impressive display of counter-punching against the lively Scot to progress to within one win of at least bronze. He will now face a Russian boxer, who won gold last year. on Thursday at 2.30pm.
