The IABA made steps towards positive change again last week at an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) held in the national stadium.

Clubs from around the country travelled to vote on amending the IABA’s articles to allow meetings and voting to be held in all 32 counties of Ireland. Sadly at the last EGM, the vote was not passed as tempers became raised, and settling old scores became more important than progress and inclusion.

An unanimous vote last week helped right that wrong, and sends a message to the Minister for Sports, Jack Chambers, that we don’t always get things right, but a good boxer will always learn from their mistakes.

Congratulations to Killarney boxer Jamesie Casey on his stunning success last week at the European Schoolboy’s and Schoolgirl’s Championship in Turkey. A former boxer with Tralee Boxing Club, Jamesie has gone on to do all of Kerry proud with an exceptional silver medal winning performance for Team Ireland at the contest. Keep an eye on this young man, he is only beginning to show what he is truly capable of as a boxer.

Tralee Boxing Club will start off the 2022-23 season on September 5th reintroducing a full schedule of classes. Our first registration night will be held  on Monday 5th. TBC would ask all parents and boxers to arrive early for class and to proceed to the desk to sign in and take a form. Registration fees remain the same as last year, €20 per boxer per year or €50 for a family. All boxers and members will be required to fill out a new season membership form before commencing training, and to register with the club.

A multitude of thanks are owed to Liam and all the brilliant staff at Garvey’s Supervalu Tralee for allowing us to hold our very successful flag day outside their store last week.

The weather was fantastic, shoppers were in fine form for having the craic and gave generously to our local community, voluntary, non-profit club.

It is only through the tireless effort of our volunteers, and the support of the wonderful people of our communities that we can continue to help bring out the best in each and every boxer who walks through our door. Míle buíochas daoibh go léir arís a chairde!
