Tralee Clubs To Receive Hundreds Of Thousands In Funding

Deputy Arthur Spring welcomed the sports grant allocation for Kerry clubs.

TRALEE clubs are to receive hundreds of thousands in funding from the government’s Sport Capital Programme.

In all, €40.5m will be granted to new and improved sports facilities and equipment nationwide, an increase of 33% since the last round of funding and €927,255 will got to Kerry clubs.

The Tralee-based clubs to benefit are John Mitchels GAA €90,000; County Kerry Cricket Club €42,000;  Fenit Rowing Club €21,000; Na Gaeil CLG€35,000; St Brendan’s Basketball Club €12,000; St Patricks GAA Club Blennerville €62,255; Tralee Bay Sailing Club €20,000; Tralee Bay Swimming and Social Club €9,000; Tralee Rowing Club €35,000; Tralee Table Tennis Club €2,000.

A total of 2,036 applications were made under the 2014 Programme, the second highest number ever received under a Sports Capital Programme. A total of 825 of the successful allocations are towards local sports clubs and organisations, with the remaining 55 allocated to regional or national projects.

“I welcome this funding as the benefitting clubs and projects serve a vital role in the community,” said North Kerry/West Limerick Deputy Arthur Spring.

“Given Kerry’s sporting tradition, the €927,255 awarded to 24 projects in the county will strongly enhance the provision of sporting facilities to the communities and promote the growth of the relevant sports,” he said.

The allocations announced include funding for:

• Natural grass sports pitches, tracks and courts;
• Floodlighting;
• Artificial sports pitches, tracks, courts and multi-use games areas;
• Security fencing and ball stop netting;
• Hurling walls / handball alleys;
• Building or refurbishment of dressing rooms, showers and toilets;
• Building or refurbishment of sports halls and gyms;
• Non-personal sports equipment;
• Shared facilities;
• Permanently fixed outdoor gym equipment.

Other Kerry clubs to benefit are:

• Ballyhar Dynamos AFC €40,000

• Ballyheigue Social Economy ENT Ltd €3,000

• Callinafercy Rowing Club €18,000

• Camp Community Council Ltd €90,000

• Castlegregory GAA Club €15,000

• Cumann Peile Piarsaigh na Dromoda €21,000

• Finuge Freewheelers Cycling Club €6,000

• Killarney Rugby Football Club €100,000

• Lathair Murina an Daingean Teo €90,000

• Listowel Community Centre €100,000

• Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne €25,000

• Rugbai Chorca Dhuibhne €8,000

• Spa GAA Club €80,000

• Trojan Boxing Club €3,000
