Tralee District Has Highest Detection Rates For Crimes Against Property

THE Tralee district was the top ranking area for Gardaí detecting robbery, burglary and theft offences in 2015.

A ‘detected’ crime refers to when criminal proceedings are brought against at least one suspected offender.

The district which includes towns, Dingle and Castleisland has a 56% success rate when dealing with the ten most serious crimes against property, according to figures obtained by the Irish Examiner.

From data compiled from 96 Garda districts across the Ireland, most of the areas with the lowest detection rate were in Dublin and its commuter belt.

The Leixlip district in county Kildare had the worst detection rate with 14% of crimes against property being detected.

On average Gardaí are successful in detecting around 30% of crimes relating to robbery, burglary and theft offences, placing the Tralee district well above the national average.
