Tralee Farmers Win At National Milk Quality Awards

THE cream of the crop were celebrated at the NDC & Kerrygold Quality Milk Awards in Dublin last week and a Tralee family were among the winners.

John, Niall and Carol Mason from Ballyseedy, Tralee, won a National Category Award – “Lowest TBC” nominated by: Lee Strand Co-op Ltd at the  Awards.

The Masons are the 4th generation of farmers to farm this land in Tralee. John and his wife Carol have a son, Niall, and a daughter, Liz. John works together with his son on the farm, Niall has recently returned home following 10 years travelling.

He credits this experience as giving him more appreciation for the land. His knowledge and ability to integrate modern technology into the farm are invaluable. The Masons won the overall Quality Milk Award in Lee Strand in 1989, 2008 and 2016.

They said; “As the 4th generation of farmers here, we above all pride ourselves in our high quality milk and sustainability. It is an honour to achieve this widely acknowledged recognition and we are delighted our farm is a participant in the competition. We strive to sustain the high standards we have been recognised for.”

John O’Sullivan, General Manager, Lee Strand stated “At Lee Strand our famers’ quality begins at the farm and we pride ourselves on providing our customers with the highest quality milk. We would like to congratulate John, Carol & Niall Mason on winning this prestigious national award for quality.”

The awards have been running since 1996 and recognise excellence in Irish dairy farming. Fourteen of Ireland’s top dairy farms were presented with awards by Minister for Agriculture, Michael Creed.
