A GROUP of determined young fighters from Champion Thaiboxing Tralee returned jet-lagged but victorious from a month-long trip to Thailand.

The team of 10 trained long and hard before they took the plunge to make the journey to Bangkok and South Thailand.

David O’Sullivan of Champion Thaiboxing Tralee was thrilled to have the opportunity to bring his fighters to the Phuket Dragon Muaythai Club in Thailand.

“I’m really proud of the fighters, they trained so hard before we went and every day while we were there and it really paid off,” said David.

Four of his fighters competed against tough Thai opponents and they won all of their fights. “It was their first time fighting full A class fighting – that’s full elbows and knees to the head,” David says proudly.

David’s son Dara O’Sullivan, aged 13, even made history as he was the first Irish youth to fight full A class Thaiboxing and won his fight against a 17 year old opponent.

Dara was quite modest when we caught up with him at a training session. Check out the video link below.

Stephen Moroney is a three times Irish K1 Kickboxing Champion and also took a minute to speak to us about the extensive training he underwent during his time in Thailand.

Previously featured on Traleetoday.ie, Anthony Lonergan (click here for previous story) was also part of the entourage, along with Benny Ianko who won his first A class fight. Jjedrzej ‘JJ’ Rajca also fought and won his fight in the third round with a knockout.

The fighters are excited about an upcoming event in Neptune Stadium in Cork on August 16 where they have the opportunity to fight in one of Europe’s biggest Thaiboxing shows.

Moroney and JJ are experienced fighters set to take part on the night and David promises that the contest between JJ and his Thai opponent is set to be “a cracker of a fight!”

All in all, the guys are in great form after their travels. Jet-lagged and tired after such an amazing experience, the battle of returning home is halved as they were delighted to return to the great weather.

Check out the video below for a taste of what the fighters got up to on their travels to Thailand.
