LIFE saving community first responders will go live in Tralee from next Monday, August 8.

These voluntary members are trained to deal with early intervention of chest pain, stroke, choking and cardiac arrest. As of June there were 25 volunteers training to become first responders.

It is proposed that the Tralee Community Responders will cover a 5km radius. It stems as far north as Leith West, as south as Farmers Bridge, west out to Blennerville and heading east passed Chute Hall.

From next Monday on, first responders in town who are on call will carry with them a kit bag containing a defibrillator and other supplies necessary in community responder callouts.

Members will carry a callout pager and be alerted by ambulance control who might not be able to get to a life threatening situation as quick.

Despite having a ambulance base, Tralee covers a large area which sometimes can leave Tralee without any ambulance to respond those that may need one.

This is why community responder schemes are now also being setup in large towns and cities across Ireland such as (Cork City, Mallow and Killarney ).

In addition, in calls such as cardiac arrests, there is a large workload which Community Responder schemes can assist with.
