Jordan was taking part in the Irish Life Health National Combined Events in Athlone on Sunday. He was competing in the U15 age group.

Kicking off with the High Jump he held his own, followed his training and took second at in this event at height of 1.48m.

Hurdles next and was a fast paced race, with Jordan coming third in 10.23sec. Long Jump followed and with a Jump of 4.59m finishing third in the event.

Fourth event was the Shot put, this is where Jordan came into his own taking first place with a throw of 10.27m

The final event was the dreaded 800m, Jordan ran well in the two laps however faded to last in the third lap, at the bell Jordan found 5th gear and took off, going from 8th to 1st coming off the last bend coming home very strong in a time of 2.28.94. this was enough to secure second place 76points ahead of third. and a National Silver medal. Well done Jordan.

Cillian Griffin was also in action. Cillian was involved in a tightly matched U16 group with not much between the competitors

Cillian took third in the Long Jump 5.39m and followed that with third in the Hurdles in 9.68sec, next up was the High Jump, Cillian stumbled here but with the shot next he pulled it back with the second longest throw of 10.93m, a whole meter and half ahead of third furthest throw.

Coming into the dreaded 800m Cillian lay in third and there was only 80 points between him and 6th place so it suddenly became an open race and it had to be a run of his life, the standard was very high with the winner coming home in 2.07.08, Cillian came home in 2.27.60 which is a new PB for him.

Cillian finished in fifth place which is a great achievement for him. Well done Cillian

Special mention to Jack Hannon from St. Brendan’s AC who was competing in the U14 group, Jack fought very hard throughout the event and showed great maturity in his 4th place finish taking away the joys of the experience and a desire to come back in April for the Outdoor Combined events Well done Jack
