Tralee Imperials Basketball Club News

This past year has not been easy for all our basketball loving members. We have been away from the court for so long, missing training sessions and matches.

We are used to dribbling a basketball, passing and shooting but this year we have become Zoom experts.

Tralee Imperials BC successfully held their AGM online and now we are running sessions for coaches via Zoom.

During this lockdown away from basketball the club have worked hard on developing a Player and Coaching Development Program. These zoom sessions for coaches are the initial part of the roll out of the program. They are led by club chairperson John Dowling, who is also head coach of Garvey’s Tralee Warriors and the Mercy Mounthawk School Boys basketball program.

The first session was held on Wednesday 10th March and was attended by lots of familiar faces as well as some new faces too. They covered defensive concepts and will be moving on to transition in the second session. This will take place Wednesday 17th March @ 8pm.

It is not too late to get involved in coaching, join this support network for coaches, share ideas and expand your knowledge of the game. Contact John for more information and to register for the free sessions – johndowling51@gmail.com

It’s not just the coaches keeping their basketball minds active via Zoom, our players have been too.

The Shooter’s Club, led by Tralee Warriors Captain Fergal O’Sullivan, has been a great support and resource for all our players.

With sessions being held online via Zoom, children are keeping fit, developing their basketball skills and having fun from home. There are also some fantastic challenges for players to work on in between the sessions.

“Fergal has led the way in Ireland to keep basketball alive in our minds. His workouts are top class. Basketball is on the way back and what better way to get started than the Shooter’s Club” – John Dowling, Tralee Imperials BC Chairperson.

Check out the Shooter’s Club on Instagram, Twitter and also their YouTube channel.

We look forward to getting back to the basketball court as soon as possible but in the meantime keep up to date with all club related news via our ClubZapp app, social media and website www.traleeimperials.ie
