Tralee has been named in the top three litter-free towns in Ireland in a recent survey by IBAL.

TRALEE has recently finished in the top three litter free towns in Ireland in a survey carried out by the Irish Business Against Litter Group (IBAL).

It is news that is sure to bring a huge sense of pride to the large number of volunteers, who have been working around the clock over the last number of months to help clean up different areas all around the the town.

In January, Tralee was in 25th position in the table and ‘Clean To European Norms’.

Now the town is deemed ‘Cleaner Than European Norms’ and the An Taisce report for Tralee stated: “An excellent result for Tralee.  What comes across in Tralee is the overall care in the presentation of the town centre sites.  Some of the particularly good ones included the residential areas of Castle Countess, Aqua Dome and Tralee Town Council Car Park at Prince’s Street.”

The survey was one that examined the litter status of various towns and cities around the country, with its results showing that up to 75% of areas are at the general standard of cleanliness as our other European counterparts.

In another potential tourism boost for the area and the county, Killarney emerged on top spot in the survey as it was declared Ireland’s most litter free town.

Dungarvan was then named in second place, completing the prestigious top three positions.
